He may be a good player, but do we really need another WL player? We currently have Cantwell, Hernandez, Placheta, Sinani and Dowell who can play there or WR. I suspect that this might date back to before Placheta was signed.
I’d be very happy with Gibson, assuming his wages aren’t too high. He’s exactly what we need and will be hungry to get his career back on track, he’s got five good years left or so. I reckon £5m-£7m would be in the region of a fair price and then he’d be one of our highest ever priced signings. Not sure Burnley would accept that though
From Bailey's Athletic column... Visual of where our squad currently sits. Of course some can play across other positions but highlights the risk of Buendia leaving and a Krul 'suspenjury'. please log in to view this image
Nice graphic. Thanks for that, HMQC. Todd, Onel and Martin are right footed; Sinani and Placheta are left footed. DF would have plenty of options. Even going with inverted wingers or not. The picture really drives home your point about Tim Krul.
Purely looking at that diagram, considering Sorensen as a CM rather than DM leaves us rather short in the DM area, with Tettey's age, Trybull apparently on the way out, and Sitti expected to go out on loan.
If Buendia goes then according to the graphic, we don’t have anybody to replace him (at present). We appear to be well stocked with LW even if Cantwell goes. Perhaps DF plans to use Placheta and/or Sinani on RW?
Our squad is difficult to pidgeonhole. Rupp, Cantwell, Hernandez, Placheta, Sinari and Martin can all play WR as well. My understanding is that Sørensen is a DM who can also play as a CM or CB. There's also Thompson and Guilmour at DM, so the options are there. With Mair and Oxborough out on loan, I'm sure we'll have another keeper coming in, perhaps on loan. Although Sinani can also play as a striker, I'd still like to see another striker to replace Drmic.
If the keeper is to be a loan, they'd want to back themselves to displace Krul much like I think Fahrmann (and Schalke) thought he could, otherwise I can't see a club sending anyone here to sit on the bench most weeks. One way or another we need another one though.
https://www.pinkun.com/norwich-city/canaries-liverpool-jamal-lewis-inside-story-revealed-1-6788110 Great explanation of the Lewis to Liverpool saga. Seems like we don't need to worry about Jamal's mindset.
Yes, I just read that. The incredible arrogance of Liverpoo expecting us to accept £2m less than his Transfermarkt valuation (They've been relegated so they'll take whatever we offer and once Lewis hears that we want him he'll jump at the chance and make waves). The cheap deception in the attempt to say they wanted Tsimikas all along just continues the deceit (his valuation was more than a million less than Jamal's and he's not home grown). It's also a useful comparison with Harry Wilson, for whom they are asking £20m in spite of his never having played for them. Total hypocrisy. Hopefully Jamal will now rise to the occasion to prove them wrong.
I reckon Lewis was a stalking horse. I reckon they actually did want Tsimikas, but we’re struggling with negotiations. They put a bid in with us they knew we would never accept, but not so low as to look like a pisstake, then Tsimikas’ agent etc take them a bit more seriously. It’s annoying for us as it clearly has the potential to unsettle a player, but Lewis seems to have his head screwed on.
If anyone watched the last 10 games of our season they would be having second thoughts about signing any of our players. The best player was our keeper that made the scorelines respectable and he still let in 22 goals . The combined efforts of our attacking might managed 1 goal between them. We were horrendous
https://www.edp24.co.uk/sport/norwich-city/canaries-sam-byram-injury-setback-1-6790007 As well as the story of Byram being out until October, Paddy Davitt reports that Norwich don't want another senior goalkeeper, and will call on Daniel Barden, Wales U19 international, when required.
They must really see something in McGovern at training then. Good sign that Krul's not about to be sold too though.
