The Athletic have a "sensible transfers" article, in collaboration with TiFo football. For Norwich, they suggested Gibson, an Eredivisie CDM, a Croatian CAM and a GK from Rangers. They identified what type of player Norwich need for each position pretty well, although they suggested a GK to be loaned out for the forthcoming season, whilst I'd think we need someone who can step in if Krul gets injured. In the spirit of looking at ex-players, Jed Steer anyone? At best he's 4th choice between Heaton, Kalinic and Nyland, and Villa opted to bring in Reina ahead of him when injuries struck last season. There's already talk that they need another permanent keeper before next season, making Steer 5th choice. He's got 3 years on his Villa deal, perhaps a loan makes sense?
It's possible that a loan deal for Gibson could be agreed with the possibility of a permanent deal at the end of the season. We paid around £2m each for Placheta, Sørensen and Dowell, but not sure what we paid for the younger players. Going back to January, we paid £3.5m for McCallum and undisclosed amounts for Sinani and Sitti. You're right that we have no loans at present.
Lots of rumours that Liverpool have given upon Jamal and are now in the process of signing Tsimikas, a Greek FB, for €13m. Stay strong SW!
Just read the story in the evening news, link below: https://www.eveningnews24.co.uk/spo...nterest-in-canaries-left-back-lewis-1-6784356
You'd think we'd have learned that players beginning with AM and ending with a U are not always a good fit?
It's a good sign that we have a long alphabetical list of defensive midfielders. ...thank god Zimmerman came off!
Ampadu is certainly a talent, many were suprised that he went out on Lon last year rather than being kept in the Chelsea first team. I don’t think his loan spell in the Bundesliga went as well this year as the year before
7 appearances with only two of them starts over the whole season. He did have back problems which kept him out part of the time. Transfermarkt lists him as a CB who can also play at DM with a base valuation of £8.1m. Ben Godfrey has a valuation £14.1m by comparison.
According to the Liverpool Echo the two clubs have agreed a deal and Tsimikas is due for a medical next week. Apparently they made a second offer of £12m (probably £10m + £2m add ons) which was again rejected by SW.
So we could have shelled out about £12-15m so far. So a loan seems the next step especially if we have to spend on Gibson.
Ampadu rumour killed off already. Apparently Norwich were interested, but a London club in the Prem have come in for him (probably Fulham). From Michael Bailey
What’s Gibson worth? NCFC seem confident they can outbid Middlesborough but at what price? Probably a bit of a gamble assuming that Godfrey goes for the £20m mark?
Gibson cost Burnley £15m two years ago, but after two years on the bench his valuation on Transfermarkt has slipped to £4m. Godfrey's Transfermarkt valuation is £14.1m, so this is one SW really needs to get right.
