English defender Kyle Walker-Peters, 23, is on the brink of leaving Tottenham for £12m after agreeing personal terms with Southampton, where he spent the second half of last season on loan. (Sunday Mirror)
This short off season is proving a good one. A new CB and RB incoming at the right age to develop and hopefully turn a good profit if sold later....its what we do. As for PEH, the board have done well so far. They knew he was looking to leave for a while now and I'm quite excited as to who we might draft in to replace him. If we sell some dead wood this could be the best window for a few years.
Sadly, I think you may be correct. Wouldn't mind Lewis cook from down the road though, would be cheaper
The Mirror linking us with a 20 year old Polish goal keeper, Marcin Bulka, which seems odd, unless Gunn is on his way.
I think KWP is a good buy as I thought he looked good in the closing games of the season As for PEH I never really rated him so to get more now than we paid for him is excellent piece of business
Selling the dead wood is key. Most of them are on high wages. Getting them off the wage bill will help us massively in the transfer market. We still need to replace Hojberg.
Agreed we need to replace PEH. Unlike our previous regime I expect (hope) us to have replacement already lined up.
Kind of hoping we're going back to the old days of Saints recruitment, where we have no idea about a player coming in until Lars Bender suddenly turns up one day in the red and white.
There is lots of optimism about (and rightly so), however I am still wondering what shape we will be in squad-wise come the start of the season. Six months ago we were bemoaning our financial situation, an owner who seemed reluctant to spend money and an ownership struggle. Has something happened to change any of this? I listened to the Semmens interview but don’t recall Blackmore posing any questions on those points. The long lived Saints fan in me is wondering where we’ll be come the end of the window.
Whilst reading some spurs comments regarding PEH, someone wrote about his chipping in with goals from midfield......had a look 4 in 4 years for us
I think there’s cause for optimism that even though there’s still concerns about level of investment and the ownership: decisions have been sensible and logical. We’re not going to spend much (net) but we have a management team who seem to know what they’re doing and seem personally invested. I don’t care if we’re not getting boatloads of cash, the game is gone on that front. I just want to see us competing smart (both on and off the pitch) and attempting to punch up to a higher level. There’s plenty of signs of that so far and that’s what’s encouraging.
I don’t think that’s going to be the case. We’re not going to lose much of importance this window. We’ll add at least two (Salisu and KWP are in the bag) in positions we’re short in, more than likely one, maybe two(!) more to improve other areas. They’ll be raw talents, young and with little high level experience but we all know that’s deliberate and the transfer strategy that’s being followed. Just like the soft cap on fees talked about last year (there’s some speculation that might be gone this year anyway). It’ll be okay. I promise. I know you’ve been hurt before.
Leicester are said to be after Tarkowski, from Burnley, at around £50 million. Must be cheaper than Vestergaard
Sensible decisions even going back to getting done 9-0 too. It would have been so easy to blame Ralph, sack him and start the firefighting again. Nobody would have punted fingers at The board or owners if they’d made that call, heck Ralph even though it may have been the right choice! Sticking with the direction, even if things are going wrong, was the right choice (albeit much tougher) and path to follow because it was a process and more flip-flopping and changing direction would have been a killer.
Doubt signing a 20 year old keeper will have much impact on the first team to be honest. More likely to be a keeper for the B team as we dont seem to have any in that group. Harry Lewis maybe.
