Mirror saying we’ll make a bid for Benrahma. Now I’m a big fan of the Brentford BMW but I think you guys all know which one of them I’d prefer Also apparently Arsenal are now no longer pursuing Coutinho because Willian is set to join them. I mean, we’re severely lacking creativity due to Eriksen’s departure and Tanguy’s fitness, plus we’re unsure if the Frenchman will even be here next season... And as for creativity - albeit not actually Spurs related - Atleti have had a €15m bid accepted by Real for James Rodríguez. €15m?! That seems dirt cheap for a player like him. That’s usually something Levy would be like a fly on **** on, it’s kind of like a van der Vaart deal.
Foyth strikes me as a winner. He makes mistakes, but he gives it everything, and he's talented. I don't understand why he got so little playing time last year. He's also perfect for Bielsa, who wants CBs who are really DMs.
He had a rough season, started injured, never really got back in under Poch and then Jose came in and preferred Tanganga who doubled his troubles. Overtook him at CB and RB. Three years at the club and he’s probably worse off than when he joined. Like most Spurs fans I like the guy too but his prospects don’t look great if I’m being honest. Truth be told he’s probably another player like KWP, who should’ve had a loan in either his first or second year, even if it was a half season one. Players just need that regular game time, KWP has looked so much better under Hassenhuttl since the restart and you have to wonder what would’ve been had he had a loan in the two/ three years Poch kept him around twiddling his thumbs. Most thought he’d be a long term successor to Walker and now he’s more or less a permanent Saints player.
In terms of Foyth keeping him at the club for his first year or so was exactly what we needed to do so that he could work on his English as well as bulk up, because we all remember how lanky he was when he joined. Poch also mentioned how, in Foyth's first season, he made sure that he always had Sanchez next to him or Gazzaniga behind him so communication wouldn't be an issue, a benefit he wouldn't have had if we loaned him to most Championship teams In terms of KWP, last season was a classic case of "**** happens" as, on paper, with Trippier being moved on and Poch rumoured to be keen to offload Aurier too meant there was a chance for KWP to get some games, even if we didn't receive any solid offers for Aurier - but with our form going down the toilet (and Foyth injured) Poch instead tried to brute force some form into the team, even though that meant him deploying Sanchez and Sissoko at RB when KWP might have actually been the better choice as he'd have offered more balance
Adam is spot on with Saints news so this is pretty much 100%. Not like Levy to give in and stump up the cash!
Isn't he just like Alasdair Gold for us, in that he gets stories straight from the club? He seems to hint below that Levy hasn't suddenly loosened the purse strings:
I recently became enthusiastic about Hojbjerg after reading a bit and, of course, watching a highlight video. Guardiola hoped he could be the next Busquets at Bayern. He led the PL in ball recoveries per game last year. The player he reminds me of in the video highlights is a slightly more defensive-minded lo Celso. He's very aggressive, tries to make spectacular passes, and scores a few. A notable number of the clips were from Spurs' games. I'm wondering if Mourinho plans on playing Hojbjerg, lo Celso and Ndombele with Davies and another defensive minded fullback for defensive balance.
Foyth’s English was arguably better than Sanchez’s when he joined IIRC. He already had a basic grasp of the language. A loan at some stage would’ve been beneficial though, even if it were for a half season in the second half of the season once he’d settled a little into England or at the start of the following season. Both he and KWP have been the victims of a weird ideology that the club/ Poch had in that the best talents shouldn’t be loaned out as they’d be better around the first team. That would’ve made sense if they’d played a substantial amount of games but I think between the pair, they’ve probably played about 30 games for Spurs in three years. KWP already looks to have benefitted from that loan at Saints. Can’t help but think “what if” had we given him a loan or two over the past three years prior to the one this January. It’s another good academy player we’ll be losing, albeit this time it won’t be for peanuts thankfully.
Yeah, generally he won't tweet it unless the club have confirmed it. Looks to be about £20m+£5m in potential add ons. Got say as a Saints fan im chuffed with that!
Levy will just add it onto the Walker-Peters fee, knowing him! Fulham are waiting in the wings and he's already worked under Parker in our youth team.
Walker-Peters fee looks to be £12m still. From his loan spell with us that looks a steal but I suppose you guys will be thinking £12m for 3rd choice right back is decent business?
Not bad going really. A part of me does feel disappointed in losing KWP - mainly because I feel we ****ed it for ourselves with potentially a long term RB - and whilst I’m not overly sold on Hojbjerg, he does seem to have some attributes we’ve lacked since the Wanyama/ Dier decline.
In the current climate both fees look about right to me,though I do think that Walker-Peters has a high ceiling, and I would imagine that a fairly significant sell on clause will be included. His size is the only think concerns me about him being a really top player.
So Foyth to Leeds for 15 mil and Bale left out of Real's squad. Bale get's his own back by not transferring while enjoying his weekly pay packet for a season or two. What has Zidane got against him,I wonder?
I think the three in the middle is definitely the plan, a lot just rests on whether Ndombele has the right attitude to prove himself or if he just wants to jump ship because things were difficult in his first season. I'd love to see him and Lo Celso more settled and in their prime, both will be great players and together could be absolutely lethal in the middle l but if he doesn't have the right mentality then we're better off cashing-in and either looking for another creative CM or a CAM like Coutinho and go back to the 4231 with Lo Celso partnering Hojbjerg in a two with Coutinho/ new CAM in front of them. As for FBs, it looks like Jose prefers having one defensive, one attacking FB in the XI. I'm not a massive fan of that, I'd rather either two attacking or two defensive in the same XI to keep balance. One and the other makes us easy to predict in terms of which side the attacking play will primarily come down.
Yeah it’s a shame about KWP, feel he could have really pushed on with us if he’d got regular football after his early showings, where he didn’t look out of place one bit. He’s definitely got a solid career ahead of him. I wouldn’t at all be surprised to see Bale see out his contract at Real just playing occasionally, he seems settled there with his family and unwilling to take a pay cut to play more regularly elsewhere. It’s a shame that circumstance and injury have cut short the career of such a magnificent player but these things happen I guess. Despite his success there he never quite seemed to fit in.
