Al this talk of warm weather is getting me cranky. I'm just back from taking my son to Perth in readiness for his return to University - on the way down the rain was so bad near Aberdeen that it nearly washed us off the road. I'm not particularly fond of driving in such conditions, especially when the roads are full of trucks.
Speaking of Aberdeen, another of my sons works there for Asda. There was recently a 'Covid Cluster' linked to a bar in the city centre which some of the store workers frequent, some of whom have tested positive. As a result, the manager of the store sent home all staff who work closely or socialise with them, telling them to self-isolate and get tested. My son, who was tested last night, was due to come home for his birthday next week, now has to sit in his flat and wait for the results - with the possibility of having to be tested again if he starts to experience symptoms. Trying times...

I see that a lockdown has been imposed on Aberdeen following the outbreak at the bar. Big difference between the approach of the test and protect in Scotland where it is kept very local and the national scheme in England. Plenty of issues in England where tracers have been given quizzes to stop them from getting bored.

True - and commonsense regulations too - " All Aberdeen City restaurants and bars to close. Travel restrictions: 5 miles for city dwellers. Shire folks not to travel into city, city folks not to travel to shire. Travel restrictions for leisure only- you can still go to work, or for education. No indoor meetings of friends or relatives for city folks. Review of measures in 7 days." But I wait with bated breath to see how many ignore them - there are always a few, no matter where.

    Morning all..
I hope everyone is keeping safe.. Be very careful in places where there are lots of people. Spikes all over Europe currently.

Expected to be very hot here today.. Getting a few jobs done after the bread van comes... And then will hunker down...

Morning all. Clear blue sky and not even the slightest breeze. Windows and doors open to let the cooler air in while we are in the shade, but pulling the shutters across when the sun gets round to the back of the house this afternoon. 35°C expected later today, so the home help is across the road at the old lady's house to make sure that fans etc are in place to keep her cool. I have noticed that the wisteria has climbed up through the pear tree and is now trying to take over the satellite dish. It looks like a ladder job to be tackled this morning, as I will not be outside until it is dusk to do the watering. Have a good day whatever you are up to. <ok>

When we arrived the wisteria had actually grown through a crack in the windows behind the shutters and was six feet in! Also had reached the roof for the first time..
Approaching 35 here now and i have done some gardening.. Time for coffee in the cool

I have not visited for a long time but did today and am saddened to learn of the passing of Canary Dave. May I be permitted to add my voice to those who have expressed what a wonderful kind person Canary Dave was.

    Morning Mex, morning all.

Going to be very hot here today.. Going for a morning swim and then hunkering down.
Disappointed to see so many Deeney knockers on FB... People are so fickle and have short memories..

    Have a good one!

Morning all. Only 27°C currently, so it is the time to do what you must with the météo saying that we should expect it to be 38°C this afternoon. Going past our village pond yesterday I looked at the covering of green slime on the surface. Last year there was a program of clearing and enlarging these ponds throughout the area as a means of collecting water in case of fire. Our pond is much deeper and bigger now, but the water level has dropped a lot in this hot spell. It used to be home to a family of coypu, but they vanished with the works, and this Spring became a breeding ground to some ducks who raised eight young ones on it. They have flown now and you are more likely to see a heron looking for a meal. The frogs are still there and it attracts dragonflies and hoverflies that have an amazing selection of colours. If only there were some trees to create some shade so that you could sit and watch. Enjoy your day whatever you might see. <ok>

Morning all. At 8.00 am we had a clear blue sky to the east of us, and a dark black sky with a rainbow to the west of us. Rainbows can only mean one thing and I waited for it to move slowly towards us. A five minute light shower and it was gone. Had a chat to the daughter in law up in Leeds who is an English teacher. Her school has been having staff meetings to work out how to manage smaller classes when they return in September. As she has just been appointed on the full time staff rather than on a part time basis she didn't want to miss out by taking the planned holiday to Brittany. They should have been leaving today for two weeks, but with so much uncertainty at present they cancelled, and now have found a cottage in Northumberland, but for the same price will only have a week away from next Saturday. Our son who normally works in Leeds City centre is more than happy working from home as it means he can avoid the park and ride buses that he has to use every day. He is waiting for his new shed to arrive that he plans to set up as an office in their garden as he is not sure that he will need to go to the City too often. Having shown that everything is still functioning with his IT department without an expensive to run building, will it be necessary to ever go back? Have a good day, and stay cool. <ok>

Afternoon everyone. A rarity last night going to bed just after ten pm (long, hard, week at work) and slept through to the obligatory bladder awakening at 7am... with by some miracle getting another three hours before being summarily shoved out to make the morning cuppa!
Full works brunch, another cuppa, lounging on the sofa, Sharpe on the telly - old but gold and great fun identifying young talent [James Purfoy, Neil Dudgeon, Liz Hurley, Daniel Craig, Emily Mortimer] and the established stars [Brian Cox, Pete Postlethwaite, Hugh Fraser, Michael Cochrane, Ian McNiece, Alice Kriege] to name a few.

Time for another cup of tea. Have a good day all.
