Sadly many warehouses aren't full of workers at all Ocado is a great example, its just robots moving boxes round and into lorries
When someone can add 10 Billion to their wealth due to an explosion because of a pandemic its ridiculous
The ads for Amazon on the telly show the warehouses full of happy smiling 'family' people all loving working 24/7 in a window less warehouse the size of Scunthorpe. Surely not more brain washing ? I believe your post DBT.
Amazon actually employ about 1,600 staff in each of their 17 UK locations and 400,000 warehouse staff worldwide, so if you visit one of their warehouses, you're fairly likely to bump into the odd person.
Ocado warehouse down south...before one of the robots caught fire but kept 'walking around' delivering things while burning (happy smiling staff tend not to do that) https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-47160448
Amazon also 'employ' 200,000 robots, probably doing the work of at least 600,000 humans (based on 3 x 8 hour shifts, without even considering sick cover and the fact they are likely to be more efficient (so a reasonable guess would be they replace 750,000 to 1m humans) So you'd be likely to bump into one of them too (unless their sensors were working OK and stopped the collision) https://roboticsandautomationnews.c...00000-robots-working-in-its-warehouses/28840/
They'll be doing the deliveries soon as well. I got an email from Amazon yesterday, advising that they were amending their charges in the UK, to take account of the new 2% digital tax.
I wonder how many people have lost their job to a self service machine. It's got to be huge number. It may not be a highly skilled job, working behind a till in Tesco, but it was income for an awful lot of people, it was important to them. **** the self service and take your stuff to the proper till.
Unfortunately many don’t want to and complained highly when they weren’t open during lock down. Saying that they complained about lots of stuff and where more than happy to abuse staff on a regular basis. It seems to becoming a national pastime.
We,ve just conformed and sleep walked into it ! City centres will be shells of their former past! Theres only so many/much leisure and eateries you can have in a place like Hull that are viable . If there are no shops to visit are people going to pop into the centre to use these places . It's time to put some big tax on these Tech companies that have had rampant share price rises in the past few months !
It's a disgrace ! The people that go in shops and hospitals and abuse staff should be kicked out immediately and refused treatment !
Totally agree. Bit by bit the city centres are shrinking in the smaller city’s. The larger one can hang on due to population size. Due to on line , less book shops, less music shops, clothing, travel agencies. In line home delivery has rocketed and will continue to do so under Covid and here to stay. Everyone of us who has shopped on line adds to the problem. Could be wrong but I would struggle to find anyone under 60 who has not purchased on line. Younger generation born into it.
Agree the problem believe or not is that they refuse to leave. Something mentally wrong out there and this is well before Covid. I once told a customer that we work in a shop and it’s not last orders in a pub so calm down. He as you would imagine squared up to me. We work in a shop FFS
I very rarely buy online and have never used Amazon ! They should be hit with similar overheads as shops have then it's more a level playing field . Also the amount of people having bars built in their back gardens will hit this assumed switch to leisure . Need an increase on Supermarket beer prices also .
