Greetings folks. I think this coming season is likely to see many football Clubs really struggling to stay afloat. I thought it would be a good idea to keep a track of this, with some quick reference tables. There is probably much information to be added to these tables, so I will update them when information becomes available. If any member knows of any deductions or embargos currently affecting any team in these leagues, please post that information here and I'll put it onto the tables... Key Green background ... Club has no specific sanctions against it Yellow background ... Club has a sanction or embargo on it, or Club is in administration or not paying players. Red background ... Club is unable to fulfill its fixtures, and / or is in imminent danger of closure. Black background ... Club has closed. Notes in blue ... general information (not disciplinary related) Notes in black ... information about sanctions or other trouble at the Club Dates in red ... date information was posted. Some situations will change over time. Note: Clubs are listed in Alphabetical order only. These are not league tables based on results. 7th August update: Non-league Clubs told they must play this coming season behind closed doors.
2nd August update; Information added regarding Oldham Athletic & Southend United (both League Two) If any member knows of troubles at any of the Clubs on the tables above, please let me know. I'll check it out and update the tables. EDIT: Information on Macclesfield Town now added, thanks to Wellingaddick on ITTV EDIT: Information on Barnet, Chesterfield & Dover Athletic also added (all National League)
that goes down as far as the 6th tier of football. bury started again in the 9th (i believe) after they folded.
I thought about going further down the pyramid, but the further down you go the more parallel leagues there are. I've only got a limited time to keep these tables updated, so I decided 6th tier was as low as I could practically go. But it will sadly be true that the lower down the leagues we go, the more Clubs will struggle and probably go to the wall.
https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...-weeks-from-insolvency-as-covid-19-takes-toll Dover put all first team players up for free transfers, after they refused a 20% pay cut.
Thanks for this update Butterfield. Makes you wonder how many other struggling Clubs are this close to insolvency, but are keeping it quiet. Credit to the Dover Chairman for fronting up.
6th August update; Arsenal announce 55 staff to be made redundant. Also players & execs agree salary cuts... https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/53668802
7th August update: I forgot to include Cardiff City's transfer ban - in place for failing to pay the first installment of the £15m transfer fee for Emiliano Sala (who was tragically killed along with the pilot in a light aircraft crash). www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/52810660 That information is now added to the Championship table.
7th August update II: It has been reported on the BBC evening news that all non-league Clubs have been told they must play 2020-21 league games behind closed doors. So no fans allowed at all. I cannot see how many Clubs will survive.
7th August update III: Charlton Athletic now under a full transfer embargo, after 3 Directors failed the EFL 'OAD' tests...
8th August update; Some good news for Chesterfield FC in the National League (5th tier). Their take-over is complete and the new Chairman promises transparency and honesty. How refreshing... www.derbyshiretimes.co.uk/sport/football/give-us-chance-new-chesterfield-fc-chairman-appointing-john-pemberton-hopes-more-financial-support-and-his-message-spireites-fans-2936145
11th August update; Macclesfield Town relegated to the National League after EFL wins appeal against a suspension of 4 point deduction. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/53744939 Stevenage FC are reprieved, going back up into League Two. Absolutely extraordinary at this late date. Tables in the first post will be amended shortly...
13th August update: Full transfer part of EFL embargo lifted at Charlton Athletic; The Club signs Alex Gilbey from MK Dons on a 3 year deal.
14th August update; Administrators at Wigan Athletic say the Club must be sold by 31st August, or it may not be able to fulfill it's fixtures during the 2020-21 season. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/53772484
Fans will be allowed to attend football in the seventh tier and below, after the government updated its guidance on recreational team sport events. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/53817206 Hopefully I can pop down to the Gallagher
21st August update: Darlington FC (National League North) Directors deny online rumours that the Club has a winding up order on it, and that it will soon be insolvent. nonleaguedaily.com/darlington-address-winding-up-order-rumours/#utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=darlington-address-winding-up-order-rumours
25th August update; Derby County (Championship) All EFL charges against Derby County dismissed. The Club will not incur any points deduction or other sanctions. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/53907883
28th August update: Charlton Athletic - we find we are now under a total embargo. The EFL has decided we have enough of a squad to fulfill our fixtures, so no new signings are allowed unless an existing squad member leaves. This includes players under 21. I know this has been known for a short while. I just got round to updating it here.
