I don't suppose Liverpool will be the only club to show interest in him. If I were him, I'd hang fire to see what else, if anything, develops as the window progresses.
I agree that Byram would be the likely first choice LB even though he's right footed but we paid £3.5m for McCallum, so he must be considered a real prospect. I wonder how much this has been in the pipeline for some time, given SW's connections with Liverpool. If Liverpool are talking to Jamal now, then it's possible a potential deal has already been agreed.
Nick Mashiter (Press Association) is reporting Norwich "are prepared to offload" Leitner, Trybull and Drmic. Drmic has little future at Carrow Road. Paddy Davitt: Leitner agent now gone public confirming he can leave this summer. Both him and Trybull/reps were informed end of the season that is the case if a workable solution can be found for all parties And an interesting ITK take..."Webber and scouts think Yasser Larouci is a upgrade to JL and we’d get paid handsomely for it. Weird times. Power of the homegrown player, I guess." He thinks £10m+Larouci might not be far off NCFC's valutation of Lewis (if Larouci is £5-6m). "I’ve been told initial fees won’t be as high as it is being predicting (mostly by fans to be fair) the club are pushing for substantial sell-on percentages instead. Especially Godfrey. Look at Sancho’s path." Somewhat surprised Trybull has ended up out of the picture? I guess other than Sorensen, we have Tettey, Sitti (who apparently might go out on loan) and Louis Thompson who are capable of being the most defensive midfielder, and Godfrey (?), Rupp, McLean, Vrancic, Mumba who could play there in a pinch. Chances are we're only going to play with one DM in the vast majority of games, and we've won games in the Championship before with a McLean-Vrancic pairing, so perhaps there isn't that much risk in letting Trybull go. Of all those players, he's probably the one we can command the largest transfer fee for too.
Larouci has been at Liverpool for over 3 years, which I believe makes him a 'homegrown' player. SW may consider Larouci the better option, but presumably Klopp does not. I'd be disappointed if we let Jamal go for £10m, even with Larouci coming the other way. I'm also surprised about Trybull, who IMO is a CM/DM hybrid, but perhaps that's less necessary now we have new DM options. Our lack of goals from midfield is a concern, so perhaps SW has options to address that. Drmic disappointed when he finally got consecutive game time and has admitted that he doesn't like playing as a lone striker. He was also considered a wide option, but those needs have now been covered. I just hope that Sinani is not considered his replacement. All of this suggests that SW is looking at next season and at possible promotion for the quality required from new players (a lesson learned from our PL failure?). Let's hope he gets it right.
Simon Power has been confirmed as a loanee at Kings Lynn this season, so stepping up a division with them. King's Lynn will have Mair, McFadden, Loza, Power, Ryan Jarvis, Sam Kelly all with NCFC connections.
As for Rhodes, it was Canario who mentioned it on the 2020-21 thread. My reply: He's proven player who knows his way around and likes the club. He'd be competition for Pukki and very useful as a sub or co-striker if we're chasing the game. That wouldn't be discouraging to Idah and Sinani because of his age and they would have time to develop further.
Drmic, Leitner, Trybull & Vrancic en route, according to this https://www.footballinsider247.com/...ell-four-senior-stars-as-eight-bids-incoming/
Chris Martin and Rhodes both valued at £1.44m and both out of contract so available on a free. Martin has been playing for Derby this season (36 games 12 goals) and Rhodes has played 21 games for Sheffield Wed scoring 3 goals this season.
It is a natural reaction to welcome back players who were previously here but when they are over 30 is it really a good idea. Are they really coming back to further their careers or because of a great love for the Club or do they see it as a pleasant way to pass the final few years before playing retirement? I doubt if SW will fall for it.
According to Paddy Davitt, the club is considering the Rhodes situation. On a free transfer with renegotiated wages it could be sensible while Idah and Sinani continue their development.
