Its relative to me. In a normal market if KWP is worth 12mil then PEH is worth 20-25. If PEH is only worth 15 then KWP is 5-8. What is most important is that we don't get stuck with another lazy-arse-doesnt-want-to-be-here player and Valery starting at RB. Ergo, take the best offer.
Fulham are up. I wonder what that means for Reed. I’m sure he’d want a move there and they will want to keep him even more now. Everything I’ve seen had it in terms that he’d be off if they got promoted.
Please for Reed. Let him go to Fulham for a good fee and get regular prem footy....then we can go for that McKennie lad. BTW - How Bryan was allowed to score that free kick last night. Wtf????
I disagree. Not sure why people think FB is an easy position to fill; we’ve struggled in the RB position for a few seasons imo, and KWP has performed well enough there recently to suggest he may be the answer to what has become a long term problem.
It isn't that it is easier, but it does tend to be cheaper. Also, I think KWP would indeed solve our RB problem - but we shouldn't put all our eggs in one basket and risk selling assets on the cheap to make it happen.
Well yeah, but the asset we are in danger of selling on the cheap wants to leave and only has a year left on his contract. Might as well get him off the payroll, because I can’t see him playing that often if he stays another season.
I don’t know that we’re going to get a good fee for him. With only a year left on his contact it wouldn’t be much. That’s my main opposition to selling as I think if he signed again, got 20-odd games this year, then left, we’d stand to get a lot more. Also given how light we look in that position without PEH I’d think there’s opportunity for both him and McKinnie here.
Recent performances do not equate to a PEH being worth two KWPs And his salary must be more than KWPs
But that’s all dependent on him agreeing a contract extension right I don’t see any reason for him to do that with them getting promoted. He’s in demand and there’s not a massive upside to him agreeing to stay with us when he could easily say no to a new deal and then we have to sell. Unless Ralph makes a big pitch to him. He’s not “the one who got away”, but I think there’ll be some regrets.
I do see where you are coming from, but remember there are other clubs willing to pay more for him. I guess it comes down to 2 things: 1. If push came to shove, would Spurs really refuse to pay a few million more? Unsure but potentially yes; it's Levy. 2. If Hojbjerg was faced with either a big money move to Everton or sitting on the bench at Saints for another year as he approaches the prime of his career - would he really risk it in the hope that Spurs wait for him rather than just sign someone else? I think he signs for Everton.
But that’s the kind of brinksmanship only a few teams can afford. We certainly can’t! So the options in that scenario are lose a years salary and £15-20m if he decided to see out his deal. Plus deal with the political fallout. Alternatively make the quicker sale, lose significantly less and get on with recruiting those who want to play. There’s no way to sit around waiting until the last day of the window, not knowing if you need to leave space in the budget for a missing transfer fee and the salary of a player you don’t need. Or very late on he makes the (slightly) bigger money move to Everton and you can’t reinvest any until January when the prices will be inflated as is tradition.
I agree. £15 million for a player with 1 year on his contract, who was at fault for a goal and getting a team mate sent off in the last game he started and whose reputation came about from Guardiola liking him at Bayern Munich but he wasn't good enough for Bayern Munich's bench and Guardiola not wanting to buy him for City either is a good deal. Paying for £12million for a quality full back who wants to be at Saints and contributed to a goal in his last start is a good deal too. KWP could be like a right back Bertrand for us. All in all a £3million net gain. I see us getting the better side of the bargain. PEH is an average Prem midfielder at best who needs to fit in and adapt to Spurs's style of play. KWP is up to speed for us and played very well after the restart.
Agree with much of this. That said, if we believe that Everton did offer 25m, accepting 10m less than that because of the player's preference seems pretty generous. If he wants Spuds that badly he can make up some of the difference himself...
