It seems to me the British Govt did not want to upset the Saudis too much
We sell them lots of arms and train their air force pilots... they are the natural enemy of Iran.... our enemies, enemy is our friend.

On the other hand they torture and kill anyone internally who opposes them, hence the journo in Europe. They chop hands off thieves and treat women like dogs. Also bomb children's hospitals in Yemen!

The government did probably not want to be seen to stop the purchase of the skunk tops, but wanted the football powers to do so...the piracy of showing PL games was probably a let out for both govt and PL..

As far as I am concerned it is a 6-point win. Saudis deserve it and I love it, just love it when Newcastle and their world-famous number 9 shirt get a kick in the nuts.

I stood outside the village shop all day with a 'Donald Out!' placard ...

... didn't see hide nor hair of the coward!

I did see a Mercedes go by at slightly higher than the usual speed though. I think I've got him worried so it's only a matter of time before he cracks.

in the olden days they had the stocks on the village green, so all the locals could show what they thought, but bring your own rotten fruit and eggs, i doubt if house bricks would work on her though

All supporters love their clubs and do daft things over time, it's part of the deal. But the current behaviour at Newcastle is beyond parody, its becoming too daft to laugh at.

Modern football, as we all know, is driven by TV rights and money ... sad but true.

The PL are far from perfect but they can hardly be seen to allow the buyer of a PL club to ride roughshod through their own rules and regulations. It would set a precedent and invite huge repercussions, possibly legal actions.

And surely Newcastle have to accept that the PL can't openly discuss confidential negotiations simply because a bunch of disappointed fans are throwing their toys around. In any case whatever they said would instantly, and automatically, be dismissed as a whitewash. This is all becoming a form of mass hysteria whereby each new ludicrous act gives auto-permission to the next person to add to the avalanche of sheer stupidity.

As a proud exile it's sad to see people laughing about the NE, and certain politicians, being caught up in a campaign to literally kneel down and beg for Saudi money.

Come on lads, show some bloody dignity ...

    ... you're mistaking desperation for passion <doh>

Spot on. I've had this conversation with a couple of mags both on and off line who have said they just want "clarity". They don't. The PL won't be able to go into detail about confidential discussions, so all they could say is "we discussed various aspects and requested supplementary information which did not come, and then they pulled out of the deal" (actually they probably couldn't even say that, but you know what I mean). If something bland like that was released it wouldn't stop them at all, because they don't actually want clarity, they are just clinging to the hope that somehow it can be revived and passed.

I know it'll be disappointing, like it was for us when FPP didn't take over, but **** me they're going on ridiculously, especially when considering the issues around the potential owners in terms of human rights. I'd have more respect for them if they just admitted they wanted to be the next man city as well, rather than pretending its some concern for the wider region. I'd half expect this from the mags (it's a bit worse than I expected admittedly) but the amount of journalists and MPs trying to get in their good books is sickening as well. Do the journalists not have major concerns about a group who, well, murdered a journalist? Why are MPs who have pushed to end the sale of arms to the Saudis now writing letters trying to get their money into Newcastle? It's pathetic.

I wanted us to be the next Man City, PSG and Barcelona rolled into one. I had no issues with FPP taking over and was absolutely gutted when it fell through ....

... my MP is currently totally unaware of my plight.

The Saudis are responsible for pirating Prem matches in a big way so hardly surprising the Prem weren't too keen on seeing them own a club like. Money talks, not human rights and arms sales. Well arms sales does as that makes shed loads of cash but you get the point. Prem has a very expensive product that it successfully sells all around the world and I have a deep suspicion that if the Saudis had clamped down on the pirating they would be the new owners of the Mags. Glad they didn't tbh.

They actually, rather than banning pirating, banned transmission of the PL in Saudi.

    Crazy bastards.
