All about Charley in the first race at Catterick. A horse that has shown slight promise, thus far. Last race was 8l behind Ben McDui, who I thought ran a belta at Goodwood. I’ll have a pound each way at 100/1.
I am becoming a fan of young Liam Harrison who is a jockey going places. He turned professional this season and has a 7lb claim to go to war with. He will ride most for Fergal, he is already picking up outside rides. Today he has two for other trainers - 4:20 - Thomas Blossom He rode this horse last time out, and I was quite taken by the horses performance in a race where the pace held up at Market Rasen. He jumped well throughout and whilst he didn't settle as well as he can, he finished well enough to suggest that he is getting back to form. He is low in the handicap rated 80, and with the jockey allowance he carries under 10 stone, which should help him finish well in this race. He hasn't run at Southwell, but given that he is a safe jumper I am hoping that he gets round safely over these tricky fences and runs into a place at worst. He is 16/1 today and looks a fair each way hope. 4:55 - Damut I'm Out A horse who won nicely at Bangor last time out under Alex Edwards, carrying a penalty here which could be claimed to be offset by Liam's claim. He jumped well at Bangor and came home with plenty of distance to spare. A repeat of that run would make him very tough to beat here. He looks a simple enough ride so hopefully he will give Liam another winner here. 7/2 I've also done the each way double too.
13:45 Catterick - Beechwood Donna (5f course looks incredibly tricky for horse and rider. Downhill at the start, followed by undulations last two or three furlongs. Hopefully, selection can get away sharply from a decent low draw and give her young apprentice jockey a good winner!)
Southwell 4.20 Stormbay Bomber Runs his best races at Southwell (2 wins, a few places) and races at lowest ever handicap mark. Last time after a break finished 3rd at Southwell. Stable amongst the winners recently. Looks to have a nice each way chance in this.
A fool and his money are easily parted as the saying goes, the below has struggled since beating The Navigator (50/1) that day back in 2019 so has dropped in the weights, ran Sunday allegedly showing nothing of ability but for some reason was backed last night into 9s from 16s and is drifting a touch again. The Navigator has won today franking the form Beverley 3.30 Tadaawol
Next up for the Ive been backed .... 7s in to 4s Spiritofthenorth 4.00 Beverly, raced over the mile at Ayr last time out, might need to hold on to this one a little more, seems to me in all the races has led then headed. After this one 4.15 Catterick Van Dijk has been backed from 22s to 9s, the above was placed second beating Van Dijk 4th at Beverly 23rd June could be a pointer. Done Grade ones also although only 8s now
NDS - Take a look at the ATR video replay of the last at Lingfield. What a finish by Seaforth, came from last but one to win it. He needed a really strong gallop to have any chance, which he got on today's 'Slow' Polytrack surface. Fine ride by apprentice Finley Marsh for the small A. A. Wintle yard. Drifted out to 9/1 from earlier 13/2!
So sickening that he didn't survive to get into the public consciousness and probably will scarcely be remembered. His Racing Post Ratings (Probably of no interest to the sceptics) were on a progression of:- 70, 84, 105, 117, 115, 119, 119 He improved 49 lbs, or three and a half stone, in 7 races within 8 months and 11 days. There was surely more to come and he was already 3rd and 2nd in two Group 1 races. The sprint division has been devoid of an outstanding 6F horse for a few years now and he would surely have been one of the leading lights in the division.
