Personally we were spoilt under Jones with McPhail and Whittingham threading through Bothroyd and Chopra/ McCormack with Burke adding another threat.

We’ve had attritional functional and dull football under Mackay, Slade and Warnock albeit not entirely unsuccessful at this level.

So what will Harris bring to us next season? We saw a few tweaks to the Warnock blueprint and I suspect his hands will be somewhat tied in the forthcoming window.

If this extract from Wales Online is right then City fans don’t want more possession based dynamic and skilful football (he wrongly terms it “pretty pretty” when in fact it’s decent quality and skilful) but more long balls from the back bypassing midfield.

Really? Not for me. I’ll watch any City team play any football but I’m not with the journalist on this one.

Theres a fine line between passing for passings sake and passing to create an attack.
If you watch a lot of teams, including Fulham, leeds, liverpool, chelsea, from time to time they 'go long'.
Theres a difference between hitting and hoping and playing a long ball with purpose.
I understood colin's approach. Let them have the ball up to 30 yards out as much as they want, then when we get it, quickly get to within 30 yards of their goal and start playing. Not necessarily the best to watch, but it has purpose.

Harris indeed has his hands tied. We've seen that many players can adapt to what he's trying to acheive. Still not possession based football with more playing through the midfield / front 4. That is reflected in the increased number of goals from open play.
However, replacing players who can't adapt to his style with some that can will be the tricky bit.

As I said in another post, Harris has grown on me and I think he'll find a way through it.
Tan doesnt need to throw money at it, but does need to give Harris a bit of pocket money.

With money tight across the board, especially after covid, it might not need a lot.

I've been thinking that for a while now remote. If Tan was prepared to push a little bit of fresh money the club's way rather than telling Harris he's got to sell before he can buy, there could be a few steals out there.

As you suggest, it shouldn't take megabucks to pull together a decent side in the Championship next season - and that's not saying we're not already half decent with what we've already got.

We played loads of long ball football under Dave Jones. Difference was we were spoilt with Bothroyd and Chopra.

Add in a goalscoring midfielder like Whittingham scoring from the left and a weak central midfield 2 where we could play and pass if allowed to but if not we could be dominated as often they were.

It was a recipe for goals either way but ultimately disappointed.

We are developing under Harris. We need to pass the ball much better and im sure it will.

Jones team v our current side would turn into a long ball match. Our central midfield 3 would overwhelm Jones 2. However the ball would be passed back hit over the top and Chops Bothroyd Burke and Whitts would do the business.

I do worry about Tomlins fitness. In addition to a striker and a right back we probably need a ball playing no.10 to cover him.

Kieffer Moore is completely different class to Glatzel. Im not convinced we will pay that though.

Scores goals when surrounded by Bale, Ramsey, Allen, James, Brooks and Wilson maybe but unfortunately our support play is not of the same calibre.

With him up top our style will revert to Warnock ball.

Don't get me wrong I will support him if successful but he could easily be another Madine.

He did score against us with some decent ‘teckers’....<whistle>

If Harris doesn’t land him maybe (if he wants a hanging target man) he’ll go back to London for Matt Smith <yikes>

Don't know what you mean by "different class" Hilts - odd comparison. Which type of player do you want for this revolution - or even evolution we're told about?

Glatzel has been a dissappointment no question, but he was brought to the club as a "different" type of frontman. It hasn't worked out, but to now go for a Kieffer Moore as replacement harps back to the Lambert debacle.

Someone better than Glatzel at his type of game would cost big bucks, but Moore's type abound in the lower reaches. Whilst hardly two a penny, they're limited and the price they fetch reflects that.

I can't imagine any football fan would truly want to see their team play long ball football, but it's undeniable that football can produce results.

If City can get promoted playing top football, why not? Issue being, will they stay up playing that football?
