I was reading the HYS section on the BBC Sport website and was quite surprised at the level of vitriol levelled at Eddie Howe. Although their success owed a lot to Russian money, it was incredible for Bournemouth to reach the Championship. Getting to the Premiership was actually a football fairytale. It is predictable that Howe's name is already being suggested as a replacement for Hodgson at Palace where a major re-build is probably required. i have also read that Watford and West Ham could be a possible destinations. I have to say that I think that Howe was a little out of his depth in the Premiership and was also relatively unsuccessful in the transfer market. His experience at Burnley makes me think that he is unlikely to travel too far for his next project. I really don't think he will be picked by a Premiership club and I can see him turning up at Fratton Park when Pompey have had enough of Kenny Jackett. As an outsider, I just feel that the location would be ideal and also that the level and ambition of Portsmouth is probably a very good fit. I think Howe could get Portsmouth in to the Championship which, at this point in time, is probably the best that they can hope for.
Well with the impact of parachute money, championship is probably the most any club that hasn't been in the premier league recently can hope for. Watch as next season Norwich hog a promotion place again. Then the season after that west brom hog a promotion place and probably Fulham too... Given the vitriol towards Jackett, I think a lot of Portsmouth fans would bite your hands off for Howe even at the moment.
I don’t know if it’s been mentioned, but the Saudis pulling out of the Newcastle deal could be a win win situation for Mike Ashley, especially if the American takes over the deal. It seems that the Saudis put up a £17 million, non returnable deposit, for exclusivity. A nice little earner.
Agree with a lot of this. People mustn’t forget what he did at Bournemouth before the Russian money came in. That first season! He came in and they were struggling to survive and got them promoted. Incredible. I do think he’ll get a bigger job than Pompey next though. Fulham, Brentford, Watford, Palace, Brighton, Birmingham, Wolves, Villa, West Ham, Cardiff, Bristol City all not too far and all though not with vacancies currently, would be possibilities should vacancies arise soon.
Personally, I wish him all the best. His achievements speak for themself, as you say. Don't think he was the most inspiring manager but I feel he was let down badly by the players - especially their attitude after lockdown when they were playing as if they didn't care and I think they thought themselves safe. If they'd shown some of the same grit they showed in the last few games, they'd have picked up a few more points. He knows the squad will now get picked apart and the board have very little money, so get out now. Hope he goes on to better things.
I think Danny Cowley would be a good shout to replace him. A lot of Huddersfield fans could not believe Huddersfield sacked him.
If I catch anyone deliberately coughing at another person when I am refereeing I won't even hesitate in sending them off. In the current climate that is almost as bad as spitting at someone.
FA guidance says a yellow can be issued if the offence is not severe enough to warrant a red. But for me, in the current climate, deliberately coughing at someone is a red card.
Well it'll either be a red card or a right hand straight on the chin I'd imagine. Either is acceptable.
Has to be a red card...not only impolite and potentially dangerous, but also an insult to all the people who have suffered loss. Have to say that I doubt it will be seen at the higher levels of the game....more something likely to happen on a local rec. I suspect the poor ref will decide on yellow or red card based on if he thinks the player will give him a Glasgow kiss.
