Remember that very well I'm sure it was Thorpe with Hussain as captain? As good as the Windies series was, I'm looking forward to seeing Pakistan again this time round. Remember on their last tour where at the close of play as they walked off the skipper got them all to drop to the floor and do press ups to show their superior fitness (or something similar?) Edit - It was a tribute to the Pakistan army, who they had been training with to build up strength and stamina, it seems.
Yes Hussain was the captain - a good example of where your best captain does not equal your best player! That's daft of the Pakistanis lol, focus on playing cricket!
From BBC match report: Chasing 277 on a snakepit of a pitch, England looked all but beaten at 117-5, only for Woakes and Buttler to counter-attack in a partnership of 139.
Ben Stokes unavailable for next 2 tests,. Big loss, but family comes first. Wokes has stood up,and will fill the spot Need a good No3,and move Root back to No4. Where are Bell and Trott when you need them?
Zak Crawley was only dropped so we could play an extra bowler. Failing that, give Dan Lawrence from Essex a try. {He says without a trace of bias} please log in to view this image
I moved there when I was just 13. And lived for years just 9 miles from Chelmsford. So my 'adopted' team - in the absence of anything meaningful in Norfolk.
Warwickshire man myself, hence the Bell,Trott reference. I must add that my one regret moving to Norfolk, was the loss of 1st class cricket.I miss days at Edgbaston immensly.Tried watching. Norfolk at Lakenham a few times, but could never get the real buzz.
No, it can try with all its might but Lakenham / Horsford will never match the spine tingling buzz of the Eric Hollies stand.
Saw the great Brian Lara against Minor Counties at Lakenham a few years ago. He clipped a couple of 6's into the tennis courts with nonchelent ease. My best memory of Test cricket was seeing Graeme Pollock at Trent Bridge in 1965 playing one of the best innings of all time.Sadly South Africa were banned shortly afterwards so his Test career was short lived. I was also fortunate to see Rohan Kanhai and Garfield Sobers play against each other at Trent Bridge.(scived off college to watch that one) Happy Days indeed
First test match I saw live was England V South Africa at Trent Bridge in 1998, parents knew I loved cricket so when the tickets were cheap on the final day took me to see England win. Atherton got 98 not out and I remember him and Stewart having a conversation as to whether Atherton wanted to get his century because Stewart came in after Hussain and hit his first 6 balls at least all for four.
My first Test was also at Trent Bridge in 1964 v Aussie. Trip was organised from school by our PE teacher. No tickets in those days, just turn up and take your chance. I think it was Boycotts 1st Test
My first test, at the Oval I 63 or thereabout, saw Hall, Griffith, Sobers, Valentine, and Worrell. What a team they were. England had Trueman, Barrington, Dexter and Titmus. We lost by 8 wickets. I had just finished my RAF apprenticeship and was waiting to start at RAF Henlow so was on leave.
127-4 when they came together. Excellent run rate too - shame there are no punters allowed in to enjoy it
