There is always the possibility of a poor stop or crashing in pit entry Always risky pitting but yeah after Bottas I bet there were a few worried faces. I think Lewis is usually a bit lighter on tyres.
I do wonder if some of the folks that comment on motorsport on social media actually watch motorsport at all. So many people baying for Merc penalties. I get that the sport isn't exactly thrilling at the front in this era. Even as a Hamelot, there's no longer the same excitement for a win... But come on. Yep, I get that I'm the old man shouting at clouds atm, but some of the reactions from "fans" drives me spare. Thank God for this place!
Yeah but can you imagine the pain of nailing your flag to the I hate Hamilton club back in 2007 and then having to watch this year after year. Was all looking so rosy up until 2013..... now he's gone and ruined it by smashing all records to universal acclaim.
Ha! Yeah... That can't be much fun. Like any dominant period in sport, this too shall pass, and we'll move on to the next phase of boredom.
Still not quite the golden year of 1988 yet, although who knows the Mercedes might grab pole by 3 seconds in Imola yet! Heck this could have been Mercedes Monza - Close but not quite.
Maybe it's because I was younger, but even years like 1988, the sport was still exciting. Maybe it was the grainy TV images and Murray commentating over what sounded like a phone... Maybe it's romance... I dunno. We do need a competitive season soon though. It's been a while. 2010?
While the front is too predictable it's the mid field that is much more interesting. There was very little coverage of the Mercs after the first couple of laps, then a bit at the restarts, then the last 2 laps. Midfield is so close it had some good battles, not very long ones but some good overtaking. Other than Mercs the rest of the field are bunching up quite nicely. Hopefully the rest of this season and next at least the mid field should be good to watch.
Kind of yeah... But when. You have Max out in no man's land, and Charles to a degree... We're being robbed of some fantastic battles between a really good crop of drivers. What we need are two races per event. One in the F1 car, second in an Indy chassis with and old V8 bolted up in the back. Imagine that.
One question from today... How did Grosjean escape penatly? Amazed he didn't get one given his naughtiness.
2012 wasn't bad, if McLaren could have managed a sub 13 second pitstop from time to time it would have been a 4 way fight between Alonso, Button, Hamilton and Vettel. Even 2017 & 2018 had some potential, just the red party failed to live up to what they were actually capable of. It's just a bad mix of a impeccable team with an impeccable driver. How is anyone realistically supposed to beat that, bar fudging a fuel flow meter (outlandish idea I know).
Yeah I don't think we're ever going to have a car that dominant ever again, or even close to that dominant. Mercedes might manage a clean sweep of wins this year, but performance advantage wise it still won't even be close to 88.
no, it was the suspense of waiting for the engine to go pop, or the leader crashing into an obstinant backmarker
That's a fair point too. There was no knowing when an engine might go supernova. Bring back single race engines!
