Given we’re being told to ‘staycation’ it seems logical the beaches will be busy when it’s 30+ degrees. Lots of room around the pool in Andalucía but it’s a bit cloudy today.
If you weren't tested, I don't accept that you've had it. You may think you have. However, if if you're safe and can't pass it on, I doubt whether many of those on the beach today are in a similar position.
From what I've seen, there is no social distancing and these places are packed. On the news today, there were reports of people being crammed into the trains on their way to the coast. When we get a second wave I presume you'll blame the government?
I was on the beach at Margate yesterday and there was plenty of distancing. Everyone wore masks on the train, including me. The easing of lockdown was predicated on Johnson's 'world beating' test track and trace system, wasn't it? Who will you blame for a second wave, me?
Just because there's a bit of sun it doesn't automatically mean that you have to go to the beach Several of the train companies saying passengers can't social distance because they are too crowded In contrast a neighbour leaving London at 6 last night told me there were just 4 passengers - 1 per carriage. Wouldn't even have covered the driver's salary
Social distancing went out of the window a long time ago. It was only truly in effect when there were total restrictions (apart from cummings and a few other politicians). The majority of the country has been opened up and told to 'stay alert'. Yes I blame the government for a **** show, poor messaging, even poorer example setting, some percentage of deaths, lies and more damn lies. Is it really any wonder that people are just doing what they want. Who really listens to that fat silly lying ****. If he could just tell the truth once in a while then people might just take him a little more seriously.
It's not the packed beaches and parks spreading the virus, not according to tory mp Craig Whittaker , its those BAME for not taking it seriously enough! The new guidelines are 'absolutely crystal clear' says Matt HanCOCK.....so clear that he got them wrong himself.
Trouble is Bob, a lot of people are using the confused messages as an excuse to pretend they don't understand the guidelines. Utter bollocks mate.
Are there are guidelines that say 'don't get on a train' or 'don't go to the beach'? I may have missed them, all I heard from Johnson yesterday was 'heads, shoulders, knees and toes' or some such.
I dont even think they are even pretending not to understand them Col, they just dont give a ****. Some obviously dont understand them, even our own health minister who instigated the lock down in the northern areas, but most just dont listen to the government and in all honesty, it's not hard to see why.
First time at a pub yesterday. Table had to be pre-booked (max of 6 people) and you have a 90min slot. All tables were at least 2m apart. Sanitiser stations at entrance and exit. Ordering (and payment) at the table via an app, so no cash or ordering at the bar. Drinks brought to your table, and you take them from the tray. For a Friday evening it was very very quiet. Felt very safe due to precautions, systems and reduced people around I have to say. I can’t say it particularly spoilt a drink with friends. And I still don’t see the pub as a regular thing I would want to do. Whilst our glass studio is very well isolated, the customers/clients we have had have been respectful, kept there distance and been fine wearing masks. We did show at Dorset Art Festival recently, where there were controlled numbers per day. Helped that no children were allowed (as it was held at a place where there are lakes - Sculpture on the Lakes - so purely safety measures). People were very good and seemed very relaxed. Wide open spaces to roam and well managed by artists, customers and organisers. At the end of the day it is all about common sense, awareness and a sense of responsibility. The government have done a very poor job, no doubt about it. But it’s clear, now, whatever decisions they make are torn apart and thrown to the seven winds... ‘didn’t act quickly enough’ ... ‘acting too quickly’ ... what difference does it make when/how they announce it? It’s the actions that matter. Just get more of them right now please. Looking forward to seeing my father and son for a few days this weekend for the first time since lockdown. Three generations together, out in the distant countryside of Somerset with a few beers in the garden, mad conversations, memories old and new memories created.
Ask yourself why now that people are not abiding by the guidelines in comparison to March and April. Beaches are open, trains are running, people encouraged to get back to normal, to work, to holiday in the uk, to see friends and family in a pub but not in a pub, dont see more than 1 other person in your dreams but dont dream, keep 2m apart except when youre only 1m blah blah blah. It's a **** show. Simple as that
What's on trial here are not governments but whole societies. A society such as in South Korea is capable of regulating itself without laws because society is always more important than the individual member, and because they have a strong sense of intergenerational solidarity there. After 30 years of neo liberal brainwashing, and the consequent breakdown of community it is hardly surprising that individuals only think of themselves at times like this - the generations of the 60s would have reacted in a different way to this crisis - probably without the necessity of laws. The law cannot be everywhere at the same time, and if a couple of youths on your bus are not wearing masks then the responsibility lies with the other passengers to exert some civil courage and compel them to do so - unfortunately this often doesn't happen and people will shake their heads, and mumble, but do nothing. Those who congregate on beaches, or jet off to Spain, (whether this is actually legal or not) should be made to recognise that their behaviour is antisocial - and this can only be done by other members of the community.
Just control the numbers. Pre-book your day out. Have a parking slot. No ticket. No beach visit. No overcrowding. Local businesses can manage themselves and not be overcome by visitors, yet still make some living. Local authorities could do it if they tried. Once people know they will be turned away they won’t waste their time driving for hours to be turned away. Sounds authoritarian? It’s new controls for new times. Won’t be forever.
