We don’t test enough.. we are behind Europe... it’s all the fault of Boris.... but wait... also worthy of note is the we count care home deaths and some other countries don’t... PHE also said that is someone recovers from Covid and the had a heart attack of gets hit by a bus.. that death is counted as Covid on account that they once had it.... instinct is telling me things ain’t that bad in the UK
I will also assume we count tests differently. Abroad will count per person and we'll count per actual test used ( usually about 3 pretty person tested)
How many deaths yesterday in quarantined Spain and how many deaths in second wave Europe? Now how's many deaths yesterday in UK. The Tories are the money party. Of course they won't damage that just to make themselves look ****.
Believe it or not its actually not a competition. There on no worldwide standards for reporting deaths so there are always going to be differences. There also appear to be differences in transmissibility of the various strains, according to some early research. Probably the best estimate of deaths is by using the increase in deaths over previous average years which is where the 60000ish number comes from. Of course that may be enhanced by the fact that there are people who should have gone to hospital for treatment for a range of treatments but couldn’t because of Covid. Think the UK testing is now very good, took time to get up to speed but now they must be turning over well over 100000 tests per day. The big mistake was closing down late. Allowing the Cheltenham Festival and Liverpool - Athletico Madrid game to go on was not clever although in hindsight it did stop us having to listen to Liverpool fans go on about how they were going to win both the Premier and Champions leagues for another 4 months. Also not closing the borders early on will have had an effect - it was actually harder to leave Indonesia than get into the UK when I visited. To be honest though I don't think it mattered who was in power - mistakes would have been made. One thing I thought the UK did very well was reducing the economic effect on individuals and businesses during lockdown. Its noticeable that the countries that couldn't afford to do that are the ones that are suffering more now (in South America, India etc). What amazes me is the number of people in the UK who are saying its not that bad as though this is a reason to make a fuss about wearing masks in shops etc. They are compulsory here whenever outdoors and nobody makes a big deal about it - its a minor inconvenience and if it reduces transmission by even a small amount it's a good thing. I don’t believe the bus thing by the way - think you are spending too much time on Twitter (while being highly productive from home). Unless the bus actually crashed into the Covid ward of course.
Shame on Boris for forcing those 620 manc house parties to happen at the peak.... and now Manchester is getting locked down tighter.... down with the government...
Yeah - excess deaths is a better stat than Covid deaths as it removes any query about whether someone is dying with/of Covid and if other countries have tested less, bringing down their figures. Unfortunately when we look at that stat, it makes us look even worse, so someone definitely cocked up somewhere. Not saying I would have done better, mind. Just that other countries definitely did - and that it has been pretty bad here, despite a pretty hard lockdown. Don’t confuse people unfairly (maybe) blaming the government with the virus itself being a conspiracy to make Boris look bad. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-53592881
