But it is to the players. They are employed by an employee who has told them they are no longer wanted. They are then asked will you play an extra month for free. This is their job. You are naive if you think players don't think the same as any other business. They didn't **** off though did they. There contracts expired with an employee who did not want to extend the contract beyond a month. I expect a player to give his absolute all whilst he is contract with us, why would I expect him to give his all when that expires? Why would I expect him to play for free? Why would I expect them to play and risk their career and families futures for someone who doesn't want them? They are the same as everyone else, mortgages to pay, pensions to pay into.
Naive ? Probably am, expecting a team mate who was also the club captain and the vice captain to play on for a couple of weeks especially when they had just been paid to sit on their arses for three months and do nothing. All that team bonding, all those team talks, all those huddles before a game meant zilch then ? Doesn't matter though does it ? Those fans who I'd kissed the badge for, those players who are now being released or on half way wages because of the club has been relegated, the backroom staff now out of work. Naive me ? I'm alright jack.
It's not really the point at all, but they weren't sat on their arse doing nothing, they all had training plans to follow to stay fit as part of their work.
Still stinks. In another life I was at a union meeting where thirty of my 'workmates' were offered a £10 a week rise but it meant four of the workforce being made redundant, or accept £5 a week rise and every one keeps their jobs. We all had kids and mortgages. What did my workmates vote for ? The £10 a week. I was one of the four. Morale's eh ? Who needs em.
Well done on your morals, but they're not remotely comparable situations and we shouldn't be questioning the morals of the four city players who left in July simply because they wouldn't work for free.
99% of people on here would do exactly what the players did in that scenario if they were them. Simple.
Yes I did actually, for Real Aid, a Childrens Charity. I wasn't on thousands of pounds a week at the time either when my workmates voted us out of work, like the hard done to four. .
Kev Stewart did it for nowt then?? did he **** As ulrika said Irvine and lichaj are selfish ****s They would have been paid for the extra it’s a contract ffs
Yep,I've had experience of this type of thing many years ago as a shop steward. What was it Ghandi said.... "Earth provides enough to satisfy every man's needs, but not every man's greed"!!!
When I was working at one point we had to offer staff either a 15% pay cut or face redundancies. They eventually agreed to the cut, thankfully it only lasted 3 months before we could reinstate it. Funny thing though the ones who were most pissed off about taking the cut were those on the highest salaries.
... "were those on the highest salaries" - used to leverage larger loans and credit card debt no doubt !
