He's a regular starter in the Bundesliga, so he won't be sold for a pittance, nor would he be on minuscule wages. Unless we're planning to go to a back three (and that didn't seem to be a smashing success) four CBs is a luxury we can't really afford. It also cites our desire for a left-footed CB, but by all accounts we just signed one of those.
Definitely I'd say, but probably for a similar price to Ake. AKA a long, long way out of our price range I could see Chelsea, Arsenal or Leicester going for Stones. EDIT - Saintmagic got there first.
We have always had at least four CBs in the past the trouble is that we haven't had enough quality for the starting pair since Jose and VVD left. We miss Maya a lot because he was adequate and was a squad player that never complained. We can surely afford a fourth CB if Hoedt and Vester's wages are both off of the books. The defence is an absolute priority this window and we can't skimp on it, the rest of the squad isn't in too bad a state.
I'll add, This summer if we manage to shift Vestergaard and Hoedt, aswell as Danso going back and Yoshida already gone, thst is alot of saved wages... Not to mention the fact that Salisus wage is only 23K a week.
Just spoke to my (Saints supporting) mate in Germany to ask about him. His response: "He's a big Austrian who is excellent in the air. Very VERY popular with Eintracht fans. They sing 'Hinti Army Now' to the tune of Status Quo's 'In The Army Now'. Very outspoken guy. He doesn't mince his words in interview". He also points out that he's one of Eintracht's top players and only been there a year, so therefore the rumour is likely bollocks. My take - despite the fact I adore the chant, and would welcome it at St Mary's with open arms, I would worry that we're getting a hybrid of Hoedt and Austin, going by that description!
We've had them before will have them again..........the guys are big enough to Handle him just like they did with the others.
Well, I think the £41m is c. 50% of the £81m. £81m minus £41m, minus the £5m = who gives a **** they're playing Chumpionship footie next season, and we wont even notice
Don't know if it's already been said but Celtic have signed Vasilis Barkas from AEK Athens, so it looks like Frazer will be hanging around next season?
It's absolutely true that the problem has been a lack of quality in the starting lineup, but if all of your options are mediocre, it doesn't matter whether you have 3 or 12 central defenders on the books, you're still pretty well going to suck. It makes sense to sign another CB if we don't believe that Bednarek and Stephens are worthy of the role. It doesn't make sense to sign someone we expect to be depth behind them.
It may be but hey won't get it in one hit - just like their £85million debt is from previous years. But it will help.
I respect the club for staying firm on our valuation but it’s a complex situation with Pierre wanting Spurs or nothing (if that’s the case).
