It's the first meeting between the sides at St Marys since 18th October 2008 when Watford took all 3 points in a 3-0 victory. Saints' record against Watford leaves a lot to be desired, having not beaten them since the 2002/03 season. On that occasion, they were 2-1 winners at Villa Park in a memorable FA Cup semi-final. There have been 7 meetings since, with The Hornets being victors on all but one occasion. You'd have to go back to 15th April 2000 to find Southampton's last league victory against Watford. That day they won 2-0 at The Dell with goals from Marian Pahars and Kevin Davies. Both clubs were in the Premier League at the time. Last 5 league matches: Southampton: LDWWL Watford: WLDWD
It's about time Saints beat them, then. I think we'll bounce back after the last two games - 3-1 to Saints.
2-0 to the Saints. Defence will sharpen up after last night's performance and a couple of early goals will bring the points home.
I saw the 0-3 loss and it included the most woeful penalty miss from McGoldrick at 0-0 and then Paul Wotton missed a second penalty at 0-1. I think it was actually the worst Saints performance I have ever witnessed in 35 years.
We've twice lost 3-0 at home the Watfors in the recent past. Not only the one mentioned above with the two missed penalties, but also right at the start of Burley's reign (might have even been his first game in charge? And i think it was either a boxing day or new years day game). But that, I don't see that scoreline this time! 2-1 to Saints.
Nice thread Jen Am in Southampton now! Last time I was here you guys won 4-0 (gotta feeling that will be the score on saturday!) We have a not 606 peoples meet up for this one , so if any saints want to have a beer and say hello let me know! Glad to see were bringing a thousand horns down (thats good for us these days!) If you would see fit to share the points would be greatly appreciated!
Looking at the last 5 results for both clubs; we have taken 7 points from a possible 15 and Watford have taken 8 points from a possible 15. Therefore, I think the game is crying out to be a draw!
Have you come from Norway? Great effort if so. Also this game screams one thing to me - those penalties.
Yes mate I have and enjoying the weather ,the city and the friendly natives it does your club credit!
Awesome, not sure where this great weather has come from either. I just got back from Cardiff after yesterday's game, it's absolutely baking. On the downside I can't go to this game, or any in October annoyingly.
Massive game this one. We're still top and we will most likely need 3 points to keep it that way. Its at home against a team expected to struggle, so it's vital we turn up.
saintgreg I give you five stars as it is not common to find another match thread. You should have opened a link in it to the Watford area.
Nice one Greg 5 *'s...Looking forward to coming down on Saturday, although I fear we will be going home empty handed....
We do one every match. I think everyone is still getting used to not606 when it comes to match threads, with regards to which clubs have posters who'll contribute and which do not. For example, earlier in the season we have ours opened up to Leeds and Leicester fans repesctively when we played them, and I found the banter between us very good. But on another occassion (can't remember the team. Barnsley maybe, really cant remember) when we opened it up, we didn't get any replies at all from the opposition fans - which kinda sucked, especially as you can't put stickies on cross-board threads. I'm sure over the course of the season, we'll all learn which clubs have what sort of following/contributions on here.
