Looks like a change of plan ! WatfordFC latest "Understand after earlier link with Cristiano Lucarelli the club’s new Sporting Director is in fact set to be Cristiano Giaretta, ex-Udinese." Part of club restructuring plans around head coach discussed in this for @TheAthleticUK
I think it was "noendproduct bout that" comment that stuck in my craw. Jose is one of my absolute favourite players of the Pozzo era. Unfortunately his larger than life attitude rubbed some of the people who mattered up the wrong way... what is it with people, why does it all have to be taken so damned personally? And vindictively petty. Obviously there are limits but freezing out a talisman when we're crying out for a potential game-changer just irks me. Gray and Quina get back in despite putting the entire squad at risk, and yet a training ground set to over, what, tactics I suppose, results in the cold shoulder. Ludicrous.
Richard Keys not mincing his words although not sure he is right about the Pozzos . https://richardajkeys.com/index.php/blog/243-2-out-of-3-ain-t-bad They wouldn't still be here if all they wanted was money .. Would have bailed out a while ago.
Well he certainly wasn't right about this bit - " I’m glad I pointed out one of the reasons that they may have done it - to avoid paying him a bonus if they stayed up." Had we stayed up, he would have been paid.
I am not even sure we'd get away with that if it was written in the contract by law ? I guess it doesn't matter now.
Richard Keys has written a lot of nonsense in his blog based on ignorance and prejudice. He is glad that he "pointed out one of the reasons that they may have done it (dismissed Pearson) - to avoid paying him a bonus if they stayed up". Bolton's Boots has pointed out there was an agreement with Pearson after his dismissal that he would still receive a £1 million bonus if Watford avoided relegation. Gino Pozzo is a businessman, but the club would not have provided over 40,000 free meals to local NHS staff and the club's laundry washed about 1,000 scrubs every day if his primary objective is only to make money for himself and not worry about Watford. Keys conveniently ignores this type of detail when he suggests that Watford is "a family club with higher principles than the Pozzos" display. Keyes is heavily criticised on Twitter for his comments by both Watford and Newcastle supporters.
For those who like to have a look at the finances of clubs, but this is especially about the three relegated clubs. https://threadreaderapp.com/thread/1288364354879070208.html It is nice to know that we are only carrying £167 M of debt.
So Sarr is now only worth €24.5million?? Here was me thinking we had paid £30million for him. His performances in the Premiership made other clubs sit up and take notice, yet his value drops by around £8million - I'm not sure Gino will agree with that... https://www.anfieldwatch.co.uk/live...-in-watford-forward-valued-at-e24-50-million/
Yes - we will want more than we paid for anyone. I mean we ought to as well for Sarr/ Doucouré and GD. Maybe not so for Gray! Meanwhile on the management front: Watford are preparing an approach to appoint Vladimir Ivić as their new head coach. [Football Insider] #watfordfc Been in his last job for 2 years - clearly fancies a quick one this time.
Before the season starts - well they'd have to enjoy being watched all the time and even told what to do. That is why I don't think any British coach will touch us now after the Pearson saga.
Some interesting thoughts on where it all went wrong by Tom Bodell who used to work for the WO. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1hSgV79Axv-aC9bUCVOs5QbgmZIIgoZd8MgUwq8OnxFg/edit
Before Vladimir Ivic took over Tel Aviv; the club hadn’t won the league title for four years. He took over and they won back to back titles, losing just twice. One title by a 31 point margin and the other 14 points. Predominantly plays a 433 but does occasionally switch to a 352. Had a brief look few recent games on their YouTube channel. Whilst the football isn’t attack attack attack - it’s well calculated (not boring) constant overloads on either side - full backs bombing on, RCM/LCM creating one two’s in wide areas with full backs. Which leads to cut backs and a free man on the edge of the box. That’s happened frequently. Pacey front three. Wingers also create triangle situations. Basically wing play is huge. This set up happens a lot. Reminds me of Nuno at Wolves. Found on Twitter by someone unknown to me.
You mean publicly? I would imagine that the process of reaching an agreement to leave before the end of his contract would have included some form of thanks.
Vladimir Ivic is understood to be meeting Watford's hierarchy in Italy this week for talks over the head coach role. MailSport
