he's looking more and more assured every week. he made some fantastic saves against stoke, but his save last night when he saved from frei with an outstretched leg was his best of the season for me. it's early doors i know..but he's starting to look the part
Due to the fickle nature of the media and fans (especially rival fans) the lad was written off far too early. He'll be world class with a bit of work, you mark my words.
This. His shot stopping is amazing, but he needs to command his box better and bulk up a bit. In a few years that will have improved and then we can make the decision on whether or not he was worth £18m.
I think in the last few matches (especially against Basel and Stoke) he played fantastic and made some world class saves for us. In the Stoke game, his performance was the reason we did not lose that match and made some phenomenal saves that even Van der sar would be proud of. As Manobear has said, he needs to bulk up and command his area effectively. When he produced that howler when long scored for West Brom, i was very worried that Fergie made the wrong transfer but he is proving me wrong along with all his doubters.
Kid starting to show his quality now. Really needs to bulk up and learn the language. Nevertheless the future for him looks good if he continues to progress.
This As a young goalkeeper his talent is as good as any I've seen, but he needs to get more of a presence, both physically and in terms of commanding the defence. That's something that will come with time, and with a more settlement back four in front of him. Also he hasn't really been tested yet - the chavs, Stoke and Basle gave him a bit of a hammering but all those games were pretty well balanced. The true test for him will come when we are playing badly and the goal is under siege in a big game, probably a European tie. That's when you really find out how good a keeper is - we've had plenty of keepers (Bosnich, Barthez, Howard and Carroll) who were fine in run of the mill games but not up to the task in the big matches.
Massimo Taibi United's most underated & misunderstood goalkeeper ........... ever! ....next to Paddy Roache!
18m was a high price, he aint iker casillas who imo is a great keeper from a young age he was always great, but he made mistakes. Keepers generally are better at 30 than 20 so, De Gea will make plently of howlers between now and then, all.. ALL keepers do. Being a shot stopper is the easiest part of keeping as the bulk of it is reflexes after positioning. Commanding your area takes time and experience and an understanding between keeper and defence. Tim Howard looked absolutely fantastic when ye signed him and well Bulk up? nope, confidence. VDS was aas thin as an envelope laid flat. Did it have any impact on his performance, no, none what so ever. Keepers do not need to bulk up that just makes em slower. Auld Peter the great was natually big and agile, this would not be the case if De Gea put on that weight. Confidence going for the ball. Making it yours, I mean they are protected to bits, why on earth should they bulk up. he aint no kid ffs
The same game where one was a perfectly placed volley tha went in of the post, the other one was terrible defending and a sublime cross, and a PK place in the top corner?
Have you made a single post where you weren't having a dig at United or it's personnel? Piss off you bitter ****.
