i disagree. The two youngsters haven’t made the grade yet and so can’t be included as back up unless Ralph has seen he and thinks they are ready. Before anyone says that they’ve not had a chance, they’d have been closer to the squad or on the bench if nearly ready. When they’re ready, great. Bednarek and Stephens have done well recently, but let’s not forget this team for various reasons were in the ****. One spring doesn’t make a swallow, etc.... those two, the new lad and another one will be good. Jack and Jan have the shirts now, so they need to come back ready and show Ralph they are better than whoever comes in and they keep the shirt. It’s not about what they deserve, it’s about how they do in the present and the present will be pre-season training, friendlies and the start of the next season. This is professional football, not a sentimental family reunion.
No sentimtenality involved at all. More the question of: they've got the shirts at the moment, do they deserve to be replaced based on current form? No. Obviously we need to replace Vestegaard, but I'm not so sure we need to splash out to replace Danso who never played anyway. Especially when we have more pressing positions to be buying for.
I think that the defence has been the achilles heel for a long time now, Ralph knows his squad and will have to make that call at the very least we need a CB and RB that are ready to start if called on, i'm more comfortable about other areas of the team, possibly Pierre replacement and a creative player but get the defence sorted first.
You’ve missed my point. You’re saying we should not sign a second extra CB because they’ve played well recently. I’m saying that’s what I don’t agree with. We need 4 CBs (not Vesty). It’s about having enough quality in the squad. 3 good CBs isn’t enough in my opinion. my order is this: CB RB Midfielder CB
I have no problem having Vesty as 4th choice, and in certain games he can be useful. But If we sell him then he needs replacing.
Is break even the fee we paid for him, or the fee we paid for amortised over his contract and divided by the number of years he has been here?
Break even for me is money back, without anymore outlay. So its never break even, but you get my point.
I don’t think we’d get our money back, but I think we need to make tough decisions (financial ones) that may mean we take a hit (if possible). if we had another good option at CB to sign (not the nearly signed lad) and we can offload Vesty, then I’d take it.
