Cartmel is back. Really like Mega Double in 4.55 11/2 Has run well here in past and is turned out 3 days after last race. (Previously won both races when turned out within 4 days)
Princess Margaret - Santosha 5/1 Backed her at 7s earlier in the week but the race has not turned out as strong as it looked potentially and 5/1 is a very fair prince I think. The Duchess of Cambridge looks strong form to me as I fancied Time Scale to be very hard to beat and she could only finish 4th, the winner Dandalla made a mockery of the Albany and the runner up Fev Rover has since won the Star Stakes. Santosha has been 50/1 in both her starts but its hard to kncok the quality of her two runs, stepping up massively on an easy debut win in a weak race, she was finishing strongly and was slightly impeded by the hanging Dandalla, the stiffer track at Ascot looks ideal for her. More Beautiful is quite a puzzling 6/4 shot, thats based on intangibles and she is unbackable at the price. Caroline Dale has a lot to find on a line through Undertake and the trainer had hinted that the Molecomb was the race for her, given her early speed I think she will be better suited to 5f and I think Santosha will be finishing too strongly for her. The others have a mountain to climb.
2.30 Ascot - Dal Horrisgle 13/2 Was a non trier first time out with Fallon on as the heavily punted stablemate won unchallenged for Doyle, has been dropped 4 pounds which looks an act of charity from the handicapper, 1m4 on fast ground looks perfect for him, Murphy is booked and the money appears to be coming for it this time. They also have the favourite in the race but remains to be seen how progressive he is up in class and weight.
Going to take a punt on Golden Apollo 2.45 York. Won the silver cup at Ayr last year 1of 5 wins over 6f 14/1 so EW chance.
Morning all, Looks like another good days racing with a handful that I like, but Mark Johnston sends only one runner down to Wolves in the very last race, 5.35 FIVEANDTWENTY 9/2. Won last time over a mile and a half and steps up in distance here today with P McDonald up. The one to beat I reckon.
I think she has a great chance. More to come from her and her age group have won all four runnings of this race. Did you see Ormesher is running over hurdles at Cartmel.
I think your summary the last day was right and with no improvement on second run after wind op I will leave him alone
A couple at York for me today. 1:35 Rovaniemi 7/1. Ran over 1m the last twice, not ran too bad but I think will be suited by the drop back to 7f. Wasn't beat far by Tsar last time, who looked very good at Ascot yesterday. I like the jockey as well Callum Shepherd, he's having a very good season. 2:10 Presidential 5/1. Backed this on seasonal debut when he won at Doncaster, ran well in defeat the last twice at Royal Ascot and Newmarket, runs off the same mark today and a similar run could win this. Trainer is a bit out of form to be fair but that has to change at some point, hopefully today!
St Mark's Basilica runs in the Curragh 1.45 Race. Trained by Aidan O'Brien, he is a half brother to 2000 Guineas winner Magna Grecia. The dam's other progeny have been fairly mediocre mind you. This colt is by Siyouni and perhaps he may be more forward than the Galileos who always seem to need their first run. Coill Avon is joint fav but after two runs rated 76 and 78 on RPR he has not progressed much from run 1 to run 2 and sets a decent, rather than challenging standard. Not that money means anything but Sir Marks Basilica cost 1.3 million guineas. Ironically Mehmas gelding I Am Magnetic cost only 30,000 guineas and may be the biggest danger at this 6F trip. St Marks Basilica is entered in the Phoenix Stakes, The Futurity and National Stakes and you would think he would need to win this to warrant any of those entries. I thought he was worth a poke at 2/1. 1.45 Curragh St Marks Basilica 2/1
Good afternoon chaps Telly stuff: Asc 155 Mountain Peak 230 Dash Of Spice ew - from my tracker 305 Agincourt 340 Santosha - oooh a Boris pick, hope he doesn't notice! York 210 Dancing Vega 245 Jonah Jones 320 Franconia cw Bighearted Good luck all
In the 2.20 Curragh Aidan O'Brien has Elizabethan and she is a full sister to US Navy Flag, who won the July Cup. This filly seems ominously weak out to 11/2 and US Navy Flag took time to find his feet as a 2YO. Dermot Weld has a nice looking entry in Harannda, who is by Invincible Spirit and out of a dam who comes from a line of dams packed with quality and owned by the Aga Khan. Moon In Her Eye has been well backed from the Callaghan yard, while Palifico has the advantage of a run but the Harrington stable is only 8% at the moment and her filly set a decent mark last time rather than a daunting one. 13/8 is a bit too tight in the circumstances. I went with Harannda as a small interest at 9/2. 2.20 Curragh Harannda 9/2
Dwelt slightly at the start and then was too green. He was getting the hang of it and ran on well but the winner was gone. A 7th furlong wouldn't go amiss on today's showing but a pleasing debut and he looks ready made for winning next time but there will probably be zero value, hence the need to back him today when 2/1 was available.
