It seems that big companies manufacture in China to benefit from low wages.. the reality is that the entire world market is skewed that way, anyone entering the market at any sort of scale only has one choice.

Starting off a UK manufactured product is like starting from ground zero. If I decide to manufacture a product in the UK I'll probably need to build a production line first, then hope that it's popular and nobody slags it off online and kills it before it has a chance (you wouldn't believe how damaging a 1 star review on Amazon could be!).. all the time competing against other companies making low risk decisions producing in China because the factory is already built that will make your product at a fraction of the cost in a fraction of the time.

If we're going to rebuild our economy then it'll have to come from the top, it's the only way to ensure a level playing field and it's also the only way we can do it strategically.

Might be more realistic, rather than starting from scratch, to start approaching major businesses and tendering, we don’t need things to be ‘100% British’ as such, a starting point would be manufacturing for others.

The online clothing boom, the manufacture of household goods etc, we could start by saying ‘we can make this better’

Some big brand stuff is such **** quality. I buy a lot of Nike gear for example, there’s multiple variations.

Footwear is always quality, but a big market, a prime example is t-shirts, I’d imagine Nike do billions a year.

They do a ‘dri-fit’ and a budget one just labelled as ‘the Nike-Twe’

The first really good quality will get a load of wear out of, the second 2-3 washes max and shape goes etc, we could say ‘here you go this will last better’ and they sell more.

I won’t blink at paying more for quality and that’s what Britain was always historically associated with, let’s start there were won’t make it cheaper we will make it better’.

Nobody bats an eyelid if Nike up prices, but folk buy more if they love the fit and feel.

We have some of the worlds best designers, best architects, we have incredible medical scientists, engineers.

    We can surely do this?

It would be good to get back to the BOG standard.
If you want quality buy British Or German.
They still make a huge range of stuff, we don't.

I wish there was an easy way to check what you buy is NOT Chinese made. Everything seems to be nowadays, but not so easy to know. I would buy British every time, regardless of cost, if I was sure the goods were 100% British.

All our groceries have these labels on them or at least they're meant to.

    2015 the government implemented it.

There are a couple of grocery delivery companies that only stock Australian made products as well

Given the recent Tory voting in parliament I think we can expect ****e processed food and products from poorly treated animals from the US

Like most things you have the option to ignore these products , having visited the USA quite a number of times we found that it was always quantity rather than quality . Our farmers are only now being appreciated it’s up to the general public to choose the products they regard as suitable , most reports are that our standards within the UK are considerably better than most other countries . Support of British farmers and manufacturers will certainly be required over a considerable time to get our economy moving back in the right direction .

This is true. But how cheap do you think these products could actually be sold?

I can only see the price of quality produce soaring in price and completely robbing the poor of any chance of a healthy lifestyle. I'm not saying that will happen. But I fear it's a big possibility.

I know BREXIT will come at a price for everybody in some shape or form. That's the short term sacrifice of transition, especially with a hard BREXIT. But I think sacrificing quality of life, especially to the vulnerable is fundamentally wrong.

Don't get me started on the animal welfare. Let's just say a lot of proud changes in our animal welfare will be completly errased when we should be improving further.

    Well that's my 2 pence anyway. <cheers>

Can't see why animal welfare will change for the worse after leaving the eu ? We already have better welfare regulations than many in the eu, and there is no pressure to change. Although I would like to see the end of halal butchery, I've seen a goat's throat slit when I was travelling through Africa, not nice.

I have read many reports that our farmers respond to EU guidelines a lot more readily than a lot of our European counterparts who appear to shrug their shoulders and do not adhere to directives . The idea of USA sending such delights of chlorinated chicken and meats full of steroids will certainly not attract me to buy , I would rather support our farmers who supply good wholesome products at reasonable prices , long may it continue .

On a personal note, ever since the start of this virus carry on, I have been attempting to keep everything in my life British. It's easier said than done, anyhoo, just waiting on the Chinese invasion of Taiwan now, hopefully the radiation will wipe out the virus for the fortunate minority that survive the holocaust. Lol.
