Firstly, as a cop I deal with the **** of society on a regular basis so I get to see the worst of the human race.
But watching the news all I see is society not caring. Riots and disturbance all over. Individuals not caring about anyone or anything other than their own personal gain and satisfaction. COVID is a great example. These so called lockdown parties are a regular occurrence without a thought to minimising the spread. Over here we put people up in good quality hotels to be quarantined yet they still complain and try and leave. The list is endless.
    Is society that bad?

No I don't think it is getting out of hand just yet, but some people will complain about anything, often with personal agendas, and the people who give air time to them have a lot to answer for, and the BBC needs to look at itself more imo. At the same time, I do not envy you your job these days, so you have my best wishes, and gratitude.

People are essentially decent and if they feel they have some control over their lives and something to look forward to they will act decently.
At the moment the three most powerful men in the world are Trump, Xi and Putin and the world is very unstable.
The virus means people may be dead by next week. And if the virus doesn't get you then starvation or war might.
Since the second world war we've had a long period of stability and growth and now we may well be in for another geat depression.
Eat drink and be merry for tomorrow we die!

There is no such thing as "society" though, Margaret Thatcher taught us that.

i have been shielding so it has been extremely difficult for me to see people out the window breaking lockdown rules having visitors round when I can’t hug my kids, I stopped watching the news as it’s always got an agenda, I cancelled Facebook for a bit as it was flooded with fake news and scaremongering, the fires in Australia, the nuclear threats with Korea, Caroline Flack, Prince Andrew etc etc, all under the carpet, it’s the media that are the pits who are owned by the billionaires, I agree that a large proportion of our population are either thick, ignorant and lack common sense or just oblivious, covid has highlighted these people more as more people have had nowt better to do, it’s all made me really dislike folk in general

There's a growing tendency for people to always 'know their rights' ...

    ... but rarely their responsibilities.

Their outbursts usually end with '.... and if you don't like it you can jog on'.

I used to like people more, but now a lot are quite unpleasant.

I don't think people and society generally is any worse than it's ever been. There's a brighter light shone on negatives than ever, through social media and a lazy press. Small things which would have remained small a generation or so ago can get blown up very quickly nowadays and people who are no thicker than previous generations can hop on board with easy sheepish "opinions" which they are just parroting. The same thing used to happen but it'd be said and quickly forgotten.

There's so many examples of this but the ones that always stick in my mind are the crime rates and the surveys on perception of crime. Although crime is lower than a generation ago (graph 1) people have the perception that it is higher (graph 2 - around 60% of people each year think it has gone up), often to a large and incorrect degree.

People can dismiss it as not being a major issue but an ipsos mori poll from 2006ish asked children what their biggest worries were and the top concern was "being kidnapped" - they are exposed to the news far more than i remember being so to be honest. The news was something my parents watched in the evenings and didn't pervade my childhood to any measurable degree.

    Its like Detroit in Robocop.
You wouldn't be surprised on anything reported now.

I see people complaining about others actions on social media etc to gain popularity yet do the same or worse.
Certain types like vegans etc who think we all should live our lives to their way of thinking.

In the quest for equality and live and let live, these millennials seem to jump over to finding any excuse to whinge and pìss on anything and everyone.

Personally think things are getting worse like. Not that they were great when I was younger mind but it seems a bit more **** now. Ever widening gap between the super rich and super poor is never a good thing and leads to social unrest, dissent and collapse if the **** gets too bad. And it's when the middle classes get squeezed and skinted that **** goes bad as they're generally the class that provide your social glue if you like. As soon as you have too many poor people who are never going to get the rewards of the society they live in they become disenfranchised and your social equilibrium becomes unbalanced. Think that's the process we are currently going through and don't see the rich deciding a fairer distribution of wealth is going to be on the agenda any time soon so chaos and riots it is. Break out the batons, let's roll.

And if you report a crime they don't rate too highly they don't record it.

"Your home has been broken into and precious momentos taken ...

... that's a bummer, here's your crime number for the insurance."

Sadly our police forces are under staffed (and there's still some that want their funding reduced).

As an insurance loss adjuster i deal with quite a few domestic and commercial burglaries and unless the perpetrator is caught at the time very little appears to get done (No disrespect intended EJK) due to resources.

I had a claim a while ago where the victims CCTV got a brilliant close up of the 3 offenders and when it was presented to the police they advised that there wasn't much they could do as they appear to be juveniles.

I guess it all comes down to priorities and funding/closure rates which is why we now tend to see a lot more police with radars handing out infringement notices rather than hunting down offenders.

There has been 4 attacks on NEAS crews in the last couple of months. What is discerning is that whilst the NHS can flag an address, they can’t flag a person. My son was assaulted a few months ago and the guy is waiting his day in court, he was talking to another paramedic yesterday and they had just been assisting the same bloke yet NEAS weren’t in a place to tell the crew that they may be at risk.
I’m not sure how ****ing stupid you have to be to assault a paramedic. The bigger issue is though is that the offenders are not being dealt with when they go to court

On a happier note, a trans friend of mine was abused by a scumbag in Morrisons. Turned out he was a known Chelsea hooligan and he was picked up pretty quickly by the cops, who treated the whole thing very seriously. Got 18 months as it was not a first offence...
