And anyone with a long term ambition won't come . Sure Pearson had made mistakes but is that down to a lack of quality in the squad to make changes ? We will still have the same squad and the issues that come with it. The manager cannot keep being blamed fully.
Guardian article very thoughtful. I am not concerned with others laughing at the club as it perplexes me too... The fact that the new owners sacked Dyche, who IMO is exacltty the manager for us..... tells a lot..... The owners are investing massively in the club and clearlry whatever happened, Pearson had lost 'it'.... be it the tactics, the players or the setup.... or most likely a combination of..... Our performances post lockdown have been pretty damning as we all have said.. ..and yes who of any UK calibre would come here now???? So, will we get another contiental journeyman with odd ideas and no idea of the Prem??? ...and, if we go down, is it sustainable financially??? Given that we have a nuimber of older players who probably need to move on, it would be a big ask to rebuild and get promotion in year one, before the parachute payments stop... and then we cant pay the big money players who we have to sell for a song etc etc......
Bit of a shock they got rid of Nigel Pearson before the end of the season. When he first came in the team did well to get off the bottom and move to a safer position. Sadly since the restart things have not carried on as successfully and I think the players must take most of the blame. Always considered Pearson a decent manager and I think he could have turned it round. After all it was his Leicester team that won the Premiership title only a few seasons ago under Ranieri, with Pearson being dismissed at the end of the previous season, and that was for personal reasons.
Yes we still have the same squad, but how are we to know that certain players lack quality? Since the restart there has hardly been any rotation, so a large chunk of the squad remains relatively unknown - we may never know why they remain untried but shouldn't really assume that we do know why. Does anyone really know why Sarr remained virtually unused until the end of November, when he suddenly burst onto the scene? Does anyone really know why Gray has never been given an extended run in the team and the chance to improve? Why has Holebas suddenly disappeared - and why has Chalobah been used so sparingly when his perfomances when selected actually saw the team performances improve? The players were all selected for the squad presumably because they could actually play the game - all their non-use indicates to me is that certain players are not liked by certain coaches, which really shouldn't be a consideration. Over the years there have been many players I have dislked intensely, but wouldn't argue against them if they signed for us.
Sorry, I'd like to add that I give us the same chance of staying up BUT only as there are two games to go. Pearson did a great job to get us into this position. Why don't the club just come out and say what happened? Why are they so ****e at communicating with fans? Why does Nige seem to have just taken it on the chin? What padded room is he in ATM? When will we know exactly what happened? I know, never - but, I live in hope!
Pearson is not the kind of bloke to mince his words but I can't see him wacking anyone unless he was really really provoked at HT in the spam match. If he did wack someone after being so provoked why has the provoker not been sanctioned too?
My worry is that it is not just quality managers who don't want to come to us, but this might also now apply to players.
And of course the downside of Pearson's sacking is that the annoying rumours start circulating about his possible replacement. So far, I've seen the names Allardyce, Puel, Hughton and Jokanovic. For me, the first three of those can go jump - Jokanovic if we end up relegated, yes - but not if we remain in the Premier League.
So you would want Jokanovic to get us promoted and would then reward him by replacing him ? Of all the managers the Pozzos have sent us he is the only one who has actually improved the team over a whole season, so that they were still improving at the end of the season.
Well they won't know who they are coming to play for ofcouse ! Maybe why we don't attract a better quality of player to add depth to the squad.
Unfortunately though, his subsequent stint with Fulham in the Premier League was something of a disaster.
Just received a message from a friend in Watford saying that a player in the dressing room at the time has confirmed the story about NP hitting Masina - and added that Deeney tried to stop him, but was knocked to the floor by Shakespeare. I'm not sure that it actually confirms the rumour - it could simply be a rumour itself - but if true, it surely indicates a level of reasonably long-standing discontent in the dressing room.
If something like that has happened, and I do say if, the club would have no option but to fire him. Gross misconduct!
As the boss Gino would have had to have a clear understanding of what happened, and use his judgement. We will not know exactly what happened.
Possibly provoked him by having a poor first half? I don't think players get disciplined for that - if they did, all our players would have been up on that charge since the restart, if not before lockdown even...
