Lacking 'star' players

Just an honest theory here, so hear me out.

Do you think one of the reasons this current SAFC team isn't going to plan is because of a lack of real 'star' players?

Imo, every team has one, two or more star players who are just a cut above the rest and add that extra bit of class into the team. I really don't see anything like that in Sunderland apart from possibly Sessegnon, but he has yet to show it (may not be his fault if he's being played out of position).

Just to use Newcastle, for example:

Cabaye
Tiote
Ben Arfa

Now in my view, they're three players who are a cut above the rest and key to our team (I know Ben Arfa hasn't played for us much but I do believe he is an outstanding player). I'm also personally terrified that in the years to come, one of the top, top teams is going to swoop in and give Ashley a sizeable offer he can't refuse for one, or all, of these players.

Now do you guys really have any players where you're genuinely worried that they're so good to the point of attracting attention from major clubs?

Another way of identifying players like that is when you honestly believe that they're too good for your own team, and that you're lucky to have them. Who would you say falls into that bracket in your team? Possibly Sessegnon again, but who else?

Don't get me wrong, you guys have some good players, but who is really on that extra level which ends up being so important during games?

No doubt I'm going to be shot down for this but hey ho. Just a thought I had. If anyone can put anyone forward which nullifies my point then I'll be happy to hear it.

If his comments/threads are logical and constructive like this one is , why do the amount of threads/comments he posts here matter?

Sess (when played right)
Brown (not that he will go anywhere, but i do think he is a class above)

I must admit Brown is a lot better than I thought he'd be for you guys.

Answer 1). No

Answer 2). I just have a more vested interest in Sunderland compared to other teams. Probably cos they're our rival team. Plus, I consider Sunderland quite similar to Newcastle in a number of ways, so it's easier to relate.

Finally, everyone on other boards seem like right ****s. A few ****s here too, but a few nice people. Maybe it's just us northerners.

 

Because we're local rivals maybe, people seem to forget that. Other than our own club, we care most about our rivals. Simple fact. To the OP Chappaz, I agree with Blackcatsteve on Gordon and Brown, when both are fit they are class acts who should be playing at a higher level. Disagree with Sessegnon as I've never seen what the Mackems see in him, but could be down to where he's played, I'm not sure.

 

(for sess) Its more for the end of last season than this one, think he scored 4 in 5 games (but will have to look that up and cant be arsed right now), this season he just hasnt looked the same, but still time yet (hopefully). I suppose its like yous saying Ben Arfa, we just havnt seen enough of him, he may be the next Messi, but he could also be the next (name has completely gone, crap for you good for AC Milan, it is late)

but i stil answered accordingly, because i do think we have very good players, atm they just dont seem to be able to play together for whatever reason.
