Wednesday sees Arsenal take on Olympiakos. After a good victory at the weekend against a struggling Bolton side, Olympiakos present a very different proposition - they have won their last 2 games, but lost their last Champions League match against Marseille.

Arsenal have won their last 2 matches (Shrewsbury & Bolton), but have struggled overall so far this season with unconvincing displays and the loss of key players to injury - including the news this week that last years Star Man Jack Wilshere may not be seen again this side of Christmas.

    Likely Arsenal Line-up:

    ..................Chesney
    Sagna Mertesacker Song Santos
    ...........Frimpong Ramsey
    Oxo.............Arteta.........Arshavin
    ...............van Persie

Bench: Fabianski, Miguel, Miyaichi, Jenkinson, Gibbs, Chamakh, Rosicky

Injuries are hitting hard with Koscielny, Walcott, Benayoun, Vermaelen, Gervinho, Diaby, Wilshere all out!!

But what would you change? Rosicky over Ramsey for his tackling ability? He is in the photos on Arsenal.com training with the team, so he must be back.

    How would you line up?

I think you have the line up spot on.

    We should win comfortably.

Don't wish to nitpick but what have won the last 2 of?

    Carling Cup and League...

Any news on Theo? I feared the worst when he went off on Saturday. but if fit then I can see that being our line up. Maybe Gibbs for Santos though.

I'd go with that line up too.
I wouldn't be so presumptous as to say that we'll win easily though, every team in the CL is there on merit,
I don't think there are any easy games

What have we won the last two off? - erm Games? were you watching?

As for Walcott, I asked the question last night in another thread, seems it is a minor injury and he should be available <ok>

Gibbs for Santos, probably. Santos seemed really bad on offside positions on the game vs. Blackburn.

    Arse-biscuits!

    ..................Chesney
    Sagna Mertesacker Song Gibbs
    ...........Frimpong Coquelin
    Ramsey.....Arteta.........Arshavin
    ...............van Persie

I'd not be surprised if we choose someone like Coquelin to start and have Ramsey on the right. Course I have no inside knowledge and generally spout bollocks so meh.

    ..Chesney
    Sagna Mertesacker Miguel Gibbs
    ........... Song Ramsey
    Chamakh.......Arteta.........Arshavin
    ...............van Persie

Im going with this as the most probable line up. If i had the option, i would try Miyiachi out on the left and stick arshavin on the right and if Arsh or Miyiachi don't do the trick, move Arsh over and play OXO and let him show off his gravy.

Argh! I missed out that Bonstar had moved Song to CB. What a tard I am...

    --------------Chessers-------------
    Sagna--Mertesaacker--Miquel--Gibbs
    ----------Song---Pingpong---------
    --Ramsey------Arteta----Arshavin--
    -----------------RVP---------------

Subs to include: Coquelin, Santos, Ryo, Oxo, Chamakh, Jenkyjenkerson.

I quite like that starting line up. No, it's not great but it should be good enough to do the job.

Was tempted to put Miquel at CB but i think we have better cover for DM's then CB's for the game. Something about Mertesacker and Miguel together does not feel right.

You reckon Miguel will get the nod in a Champions League game?
He's not known for his pace, but for his reading of the game, same as Mertesacker. How fast is the Olympiakos attack? A pacey frontman could cause havoc tonight.

How about the atmosphere too? Tickets are STILL on sale right now for tonights game. It's getting to be a regular thing that games aren't selling out - unheard of just last year.

arshavin looks his normal terrible self, he is so lazy its unreal. i cannot stand watching him. chamakh's game is a waste of time, he needs to go somewhere to get his confidence back.

  17. The Olympiakos goal was down to poor defending and it might have been 2-2 if not for Chesney so we just about made it then.

Olympiakos did give a fair account of themselves and we were fortunate to scrape through while our great manager refuses to recognise that we need defensive coaching. Way to go Arsene....

    Good result in the end.
Bit nervy second half, but I think we did enough to deserve the win in the end.

    Plus points:

    Oxo goal
    Santos first goal
    3pts
Key players fresh for Spuds on Sunday

Rosicky is the one that does my head in every time he pulls the red & white on.

I liked Song in defence tonight and it was heartening to see pingpong play with an air of maturity. This time next year I can see pingpong playing the DM and Song a permanent member of our back 4 alongside Verm, Sagna and a top drawer LB yet to be bought in.

Another win without a red card being shown - happy days :)

p.s. How many years have we gone without the need for specialist defensive coaching? FFS, we could have won 20-0 and the doom merchants would still be waiting to pounce from the shadows! Can we not just enjoy our victory for once?
