It’s really just a rap duets album. The guests had to be into me, as much as I was into them. All the different things I’ve tried to do, they’re who is doing that now. But instead of talking about abstract emotions on this record, I’m talking about things and objects and details. One thing I’ve ended up doing is talking about being on my phone. It was very easy on my first album to say, well: where am I? I’m in a pub. I’m at home. I’m in a betting shop. I’m getting a kebab. It felt fairly straightforward and no one had really written about it. Whereas when making this record, everything now basically happens on your phone. - Mike Skinner

How I still wish I had my 60s and 70s vinyl collection, some 1st issues that would be worth a fortune now. I spent about 4 hours last night trying and failing to sort my CD collection out. In excess of 1,200 some of which were boxed when we moved 10 years ago and were still boxed, some I'd forgotten I had (that happens when you buy things when you're over 50) and some I haven't listened to yet. I'll get there eventually...
I must have about 2000 CDs down in my basement, couldn't tell you the last time I played one, only CD player I've got is in my car! Probably got about 150 vinyl, ranging from first edition Beatles albums through to some new releases. Started buying vinyl again a couple of years ago - the sound of the crackle when you first put the needle into the groove still sends shivers down my neck. I stream 95% of my music, but listening to vinyl is a pure treat. When I do buy vinyl, I buy direct from the artists website to ensure they get the maximum profit instead of Amazon skimming off of them. It's hard enough for them to make any money these days because of streaming/downloads, so buying direct and also going to gigs is the best way to help them.
We truly were victims of the biggest con ever when CDs took off in the 80s. The promise of 'supreme quality' was tosh as digital remastering just killed the resonance you got with vinyl. There may have been hiss and crackle but the sound was cathedral-like compared to the emasculated versions now available. So much for progress...
New single from The Lovely Eggs.... I first saw these over ten years ago, and have followed their progress ever since. Actually met Holly and David at a festival a couple of years ago. 2020 is certainly a turning point in their career - they've had a number 1 single with "This Decision" and their album, "I Am Moron" was number 1 in the vinyl charts and the UK Independant Album charts. We were supposed to see them in March as part of the album launch, but this has now been pushed back to Feb next year.
