Just my opinion, i'd rather pick no more than 3 teams from one country and i'd rather Liverpool be in than Chelsea.
they can all eff off and form a Galacticos Uber Champions Super Star World League of Meganess if they want and leave us to proper football.. that or go back to 32 REAL champions of each country, pay the players normal wages and bring some normality back to the game.. and Tevez who I used to like can eff off now as well, what a disgrace.. I need a drink.. FFS well done Waggy..
Man U Man C Arsenal Chelsea Liverpool Barca Real Madrid Inter Milan Juventus Roma Ajax PSG Valencia Bayern Dortmund Moneybags Russia - cant remember the team (Etoo) Porto + three others from Deportivo, CSKA, Anderlect, PSV, Benfica, Marseille, Lyon
so are they supposed to be the best 20 club teams regardless of the number of teams from each league ? or is it meant to be split around geographically ? Well whichever way , within 5 years half the teams in the league would be permanent also rans and not very "super league" Right now they are the big boys in their leagues and boss their way around getting their own way Imagine Chelsea or Man Utd finishing 5th for a cpl of seasons , there would be uproar , i just cant see the benefit
depends on the criteria for selection. Balance or potential to continue to trade illegally? There is one glaring ommission from the list - Rupert Murdoch (SKY). Fact is that no European Super League will ever work without Rupert and the sooner he transfers his interests away from the likes of Bolton, Wigan, Stoke and the rest, the sooner the real fans can have OUR game back!
I'd just take one team from all best countries. So on that.... Barcelona Manchester United Lyon Inter Milan Bayern Munich Ajax CSKA Moscow Porto Rangers Panathanaikos Standard Liege Fenerbache FC Copenhagen Maccabi Haifa Malmo FF Dinamo Zagreb Steaua Bucharest CSKA Sofia Legia Warsaw BATE Borisov
They will rebrand the Champions League soon into this superleague format I reckon, the competition has been lessened in recent years by letting so many clubs play that have finished third of fourth in their leagues
If you were picking the strongest 20 teams there'd be more PL teams in it than people above have mentioned. The PL's weaker sides (by that I mean 6th and down) are way better than the equivalents abroad. Also some of the teams mentioned are popular, or known as 'big' clubs, but aren't actually any good at football. When was the last time Juventus got anywhere in the CL? I haven't heard of them in years. The CL (IMO) is still a good competition, I like that they give better countries more places. I'd rather see the likes of Tottenham in there than whoever champions of the Slovakian league may be. Celtic and Rangers wouldn't be anywhere near this super league thing, also the French league is gash and none of their 'big' sides should be considered. If I had to pick the 20 it'd have Barca, Real Madrid, Inter and AC Milan, Bayern Munich and maybe Ajax. The rest would probably be English. I'm probably being kind on AC Milan there too. You may have noticed but thanks to the Montenegrans last night, I've remembered how little I care for European football.
They were relegated to Serie B for serious breaches of financial regulations, so were unable to complete in the Champions League for a while, they are back in Serie A now and finished 7th last season, so again didn't qualify, as a consequence their manager was sacked. They are currently top of Serie A, they get they 5th largest crowds in Italy(After Inter, AC, Napoli and Roma) and are without doubt a massive club.
This is what I mean, many European teams live off this reputation of being a massive club. Everyone has heard of them so they are assumed to be good but it clearly doesn't apply. I'm aware of Juventus' relegation and also of the bizarre circumstances surrounding their support, I'm not actually denying they are known as a big club, I just don't think they're as good as Europe think they are. It's the same with players, if someone plays in Italy or somewhere for a long time, you think they are good because of the reputation they had when you last heard of them, but since they don't actually play in the big CL games or anything, they're probably not that good any more. I don't mean the likes of Messi and Ronaldo obviously but people like Buffon, who many would say is the best 'keeper in the world, but how many have seen him play in the last 5 years?
Juventus are the most successful Italian club of all time, they are the only top flight football club in a city the size of Manchester. Just because they've had a ****ty few years recently, you can't dismiss them as not being a big club, it would be exactly the same as claiming that Liverpool are not a big club.
The 'big-clubs-who've-been-doing-****-recently' argument is an interesting one. How far back would that extend? AS Saint-Ãtienne would be one of the first names on the list of historically successful French clubs, but they've not won the league for something like 30 years.
