Morning all. Playing last piles the pressure on if the chasing pack have already won, but offers an opportunity if someone has dropped points. If WBA draw or lose tonight, a win for us tomorrow puts them under increased pressure from Brentford & Fulham, it’s devil take the hindmost. It really is a case of who blinks first between West Brom & Leeds - if no one does, both go up.
Just a heads up guys. Swansea game on Sunday will NOT be shown on Sky now. Will only be available (legally) through LUTV. Apparently Sky don't want to use up all of their Leeds games and save some for later i.e the play offs.
As for going up. If we can't beat Stoke, Barnsley and Charlton at home then we don't deserve to play PL football. 9 points will be sufficient.
Apart from our young players now able to compete at a higher standard, which will hopefully help their development, another major plus is we can now recruit nationally from the Youth Development stage. This increases our ability to sign better prospects, especially as top young talents will naturally be drawn towards a Category 1 club's academy as they feel they'll receive better coaching, have the use of better facilities, better pastoral care etc etc, all of which enhances their chances of succeeding. Regarding the move...when that happens then there will be another inspection, but as we intend to upgrade our facilities it's not expected to have any negative effect, more likely it will enhance our status as one of the countries leading academies.
As I posted earlier 87 points might prove to be one point short. If that proves to be the case it would be difficult to attach any blame to the players. Hope you're right by the way
Yep, it could end up by a very fine margin. I'm just looking at the fixtures and figure that we would be very unlucky to come unstuck on 87 points. Not impossible and perfectly plausible for Leeds Brentford. 75pts Derby (a) Preston (h) Stoke (a) Barnsley (h) Max pts=87 West Brom. 77pts Derby (h) Blackburn (a) Fulham (h) Huddersfield (a) QPR (h) Max pts=92pts Fulham. 73pts Cardiff (h) West Brom (a) Sheff Wed (h) Wigan (a) Max pts=85pts Obviously Fulham vs West Brom affects either or both teams points total. If Brentford win all their games it would be an extraordinary effort and requires lots of luck. This is the Championship. They are not bullet proof. Fulham had good chances that first game and they got out of jail yesterday. It can't go on. Edit. They would have to win 10 games in a row to get max points. That has happened only 18 times in history at this level, mostly back in the early 20th century. Brentford aren't that good.
The game against Stoke is most certainly pivotal....originally scheduled for Good Friday I always had it marked down as a biggy. If we somehow record a regulation home win it heaps all the pressure back onto Brentford. Keep them 6 points behind us and maybe finally it will get to them as the games start to run out. Maintaining at least a 4 point advantage to 3rd gives us just enough breathing space for an off day but we really don't want the pressure that will come if we don't pick up the maximum points against Stoke. The similarites to last season are all too stark when we faced a winnable game followed by a difficult away assignment straight after...and as we all know lost them both. These next 2 matches are the absolute crux of it.
I'm working on the theory that Derby get a point at Brom tonight, Fulham beat Cardiff Friday night, Derby then know they have to beat Brentford to go above Cardiff, before they play one another next game. We of course beat Stoke, knowing we only need 5 points from the last 3 games, after Brom beat Fulham on Tuesday that becomes 4.
Face reality milky... If we lose our points advantage we won't come back from that, maybe we'd be able to regroup for the play offs but it terms of autos we'd be finished. please log in to view this image
Plenty of time for Roonpig to get a penalty. And if they don't get anything, it will be more important that they beat Brentford Saturday.
