Could shape up with a back 3 with a central more recognised CB like Hanley with a Ball Playing defender each side of Godfrey (if he stays) and Sorensen
Michael Bailey believes the Sorensen link is genuine, and a deal close to completion. He'd initially join the senior team as a CM. Matthew Dennis, a youth winger from Arsenal, also set to sign and join the development squad.
New link, Romanian Dennis Man from Steaua Bucharest, 21 year old right winger. Valued at £4.5m on Transfermarkt, which seems remarkably high for someone who has only played in Romania (and Europa league). 28 games, 8 goals, 5 assists this season in all comps, despite two spells out injured. Similar stats in 18/19
I feel a rebuttal from Uncle Stuart coming on. Sheffield United are plotting a £10m raid on Norwich for Todd Cantwell. https://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/football/sheffield-united-plotting-10million-bid-22316109
Although we don't have to sell players next season I think we will if the money's right. Over the season there have been plenty of rumours re some of our young players being worth between 20 to 30m, often I think they've been over valued. I be really surprised and disappointed if we undersold players and on current form 10m for Cantwell isn't even worth thinking about. In the recent past when we have sold players, I think we've done pretty well i.e the Murphy's. Why would we sell Cantwell for this sort of money, it just doesn't make sense for either us or Cantwell. I think a short Summer transfer window coupled with clubs being a bit more frugal will work in our favour. Personally I wouldn't sell anyone this summer, who we don't want sell, especially the youngsters. If they continue to play well next season in the Championship their value is only going to increase. Why not wait till January and see where we are. If come January it looks like well going to bounce back up then the players are likely to want to stay, if not then we can move them on, probably at inflated prices, possibly with a loan back to the end of the season. I accept that from a financial and player point of view we are going to have to be a selling club, I just don't think we need to or it makes sense to sell players this summer.
Anything above £20m would have to be considered, but £10 is derisory. Especially as SW and DF have said we have no pressure to offload anyone. But having shone (or maybe twinkled, on occasions) at the highest level, I wouldn't blame Cantwell if he did fancy sticking around in this division. It's up to the club to negotiate the best deal, bearing in mind the lack of revenue caused by no income from turnstiles, concessions, programmes, catering, etc due to the pandemic. I can see three, maybe four going and TC will be among them. Hope I'm mistaken, though.
I think sometimes we look at these things through rose tinted spectacles. Lets face it Cantwell has developed well this season and come on more than I or a lot of others thought he would, however if you look at how other youngsters have come on at 'bigger' clubs he's some way off the pace i.e Mason Mount, Mason Greenwood. He's no Maddison, yet!
I never said he was - I never put him into any 'category'. I merely said he'll go and if / when he does it will not be for less than £20m. No specs involved at all.
My comments weren't directed at you. What I was trying to say is in the Norwich world he has come on leaps & bounds, but in the PL world others seem to have progressed more. So for me the current standard he's at on this season performance is top championship / bottom PL level. So for me if he wants to play regularly and continue to play regularly he needs to be at a Norwich level team. So why change, particularly when he's going to struggle to find a more supportive clubs (from both a coaching & a fan point of view) elsewhere. Yes he might want to play for a 'bigger' club, but on this season's performance I don't think he's ready. I would say that at present he's at a similar level that Maddison was at, at the start of his last season with us. So if I was advising him from a development point of view I would say stay where you are, work hard and see how the land lies in January. Of course if his only motivation is money in the short term, then get the best deal you can get, but it might end up costing you in the long term.
I can see parallels between Maddison to Leicester and Cantwell to Sheffield Utd. Both perceived career progression moves, but to a club where they'd not be frozen out / benched due to the vast pools of talent above them in the pecking order. Plus he'd most likely get regular football at Sheff Utd whereas if he goes to a "top 6" club he'll spend his career in the under 23's or at best, on the bench - Shaun Wright-Phillips, for example. Don't get me wrong, I don't want to see him go, but with our board's inability to finance the club to a competitive level, it's (selling any top talent) the only realistic option as things stand.
Google translate butchers Romanian a little, but supposedly some details around the Dennis Man deal: https://www.gsp.ro/fotbal/liga-1/fc...-man-uta-de-abia-asteapta-mutarea-603923.html Representatives from Norwich apparently watching him in action tonight in a cup semi-final, final negotiations tomorrow. Contact has developed over many months, Norwich offering €8m, plus €2m if we stay up... Suggestion is the Romanian club initially wanted €20m, but would probably compromise around €9m with a 20% sell-on clause. Norwich will play hardball with price, no other English clubs interested. Player would sign on a 4-5 year deal, salary around £18k p/w, plus bonuses.
