Just deflecting from his piss-poor response to the pandemic. However it started, the US people should focus on how he reacted to it, i.e. tell everyone that there were no cases in the US; then when there were, claim it was the same as the flu and would soon fizzle out; then when that didn't happen and the US jumped to the top of the pile for infections and deaths start blaming everyone except himself. Compare that with President Truman and his motto, "The buck stops here" and you get an idea of just how unfit to lead anything but a conga-line Trump is.

I've been seeing more and more of these reports. I think it's the medias gentle way of gradually telling us, they fooked up with blaming China.

Trump is a weak ass mofo. If you’re a leader, and that goes right across the board from presidents to shop managers, then the buck stops with you.

if it happens on your watch, then you take responsibility for it.

seems likely it has been floating around for a while & suddenly something happened but we will ever know what ?
Though some reports suggested the outbreak in China may have started as early as Oct but were either misdiagnosed or covered up .

His explanation for his remarks make no sense since he said "some care homes didn't follow procedures" yet his explanation supposedly to show he wasn't trying to shift responsibility was "we didn't know asymptomatic carriers could spread the virus and once we did we changed the procedures " **. Where from that do you get to they didn't follow procedures <doh>

** cba to check exact wording but this is basically what BJ said .
Plus surely at least they suspected that asymptomatic carriers could pass on the virus but even so they did know that patients spread the virus before symptoms showed as warnings of this problem had already come from the far east .

I honestly believe from the beginning the government panicked. They'd seen what was going on in Italy, which our media didn't show the true extent of and someone thought, oh shhite!

A decision was made by someone, and we will never know who precisely to let all the old folk die in care homes.

However, it never came to using, let alone filling up the Nightingales, which meant they can't excuse themselves away from the decision that was made. If they had filled up, they could have said, well the young had to come before the old, but that excuse became void, now Dom will be trying to focus on shifting the blame, before an inquiry, hence Boris' remarks.

The Sunday Times reported that Dominic Cummings at the end of February had outlined the government’s strategy as “herd immunity, protect the economy and if that means some pensioners die, too bad.”

I remember back around the time, that some very similar comments were made on here, that the young come before the old, if it came to a ventilator. The problem was the government also had installed that mentality and it's backfired on them. If it had gone completely tits up, it would have been the escape (excuse) route, but it didn't - the death toll was high, but the NHS didn't collapse, the care homes did instead, but let's not forget, some people didn't give a shhite about the elderly, and by that I don't just mean the government!

True mate. And as you mentioned, the Nightingale hospitals were never really used to their capacity, so the idea that the old might have to be sacrificed to save the young wasn't even an issue.

That's all well and good with hindsight. I can imagine the uproar by some, if the Nightingales were full to capacity of old people, and the young weren't getting treated.

Maybe a future virus will target the young, you watch how quick attitudes would change then.
