I believe if the takeover happens and we have guarantee of signing quality players we could convince him to stay. He stated in an article for the BBC that he wants to repay bruce for his trust in him. He's the best all round technical player I've ever seen in a Newcastle shirt since I've went to games, I'd love him to stay. Even better dribbler than Ben Arfa, not greedy, great vision, great pace and good strength and balance, assists like crazy. He's also carrying an otherwise relegation worthy team. He's set up tonnes of chances not taken also besides the ones that have lead to goals. What are your guys thoughts? If we can't keep him, how much would you charge? I'd be asking at least £50m.
We're not losing him this summer unless it's for silly money I doubt anyone would be willing to pay the £40m+ figure we'd be looking for so he's here for next season. He's only young still so it's not like his value is set to decrease, it'll stay the same or go up next season depending on how he does. Ashley has a good record for selling at the right time and getting good money. If the take-over fails then he'll be gone in 12-24 months for a figure over £40m, possibly a decent chunk over if he does as well as he's showing he might.
Fair point this actually. I suppose the asking price would outweigh the minimal playing time, perhaps his injuries were a blessing in disguise.
We were saying the same this time last year about Sean L but I would say his value has gone down. Having said that I don’t think Maxi’s valuation will go down. For me it all hinges on the takeover. Goes through and we will keep him. Doesn’t go through and he’s here for at most one more season. We will sell him for silly money when he goes.
Seeing the 40m price chucked about, just puts into perspective, we’d be selling ASM for the same amount roughly we bought Joelinton for. Crackers.
welcome back mate zero chance ... unless the takeover happens he will be gone this summer. fingers crossed 100 million 22 looks to be one of the best players in the world potentially..
Seem to remember Longstaff was spoken about in the same manner! I'm not a fan of bigging up a player ie he's worth this and that,if he's that good why sell him and better some other team,I mean it's not as if the fee goes back into the team.
With the transfer market expected to fall through the floor post COVID, players values will be difficult to gauge. In the new world, who knows what he'll be worth.
None at all long term. A midtable sides get 2 years at best with their top talent, then it all goes away. If we get a takeover and are the richest club, we can keep him for as long as we want.
He's happy here, but he's gonna have no shortage of offers if the take over goes through, that's for sure. We'll be able to get more than £40m or £50m for him though, if Fatty could convince sane people to spend £35m on Carroll and £30m on Sissoko, then he's gonna do some serious bargaining for ASM. I think we could realistically charge £70m for him.
correct... tbh it amazes me how many times people need reminding..they think oh he's happy here... so what they can't empathise at all when they move either ... then the players are mercenary... bullshit... they want to get to the top simple.. they don't want to miss a dream move to keep some scruffy Geordie happy
