I personally have no regrets that LJ has left our club, in fact I'm relieved he has gone, " Streaky" some called him, that about described him to me, workwise, personality wise, man management wise, he was financially backed stronger than any previous manager, signed more players and it's got to be said, disposed of more players, wasted money, talent, misjudged abilities too frequently.

The media says it all - Constant changes in tactical systems and line-ups, players harshly dropped and at other times bizarrely kept at all cost. Things were going awry. After four and a half years it was time for a split for everyone's sake.

Any coach will find it hard to build something when the foundations are continually taken away, as Adam Webster, Marlon Pack and Josh Brownhill were spirited off to other clubs and loftier pursuits over the last 12 months, and Johnson could not deliver what was asked.

But that is the Championship, where clubs from Brentford to Wigan, to Brighton to Derby County have all lost their best players and successfully regenerated when needed to.

His coaching, medical, scientific, academy staff he had in droves, stadium, training, gizmo and techno facilities beyond belief, he even had a CEO in Mark Ashton sharing and advising him daily on his transfer planning, his owner Steve Lansdown backed him 100% plus, LJ could not have asked for more, he failed and deserved to go.

As for progress, with all of the support he has had, sure the club and squad has stablised but that was and still is a devoted team effort from the owner at the top right the way through the fabric of the club, LJ took over when we were 17th and left us when we are 12th, 5 places in 4 years, brilliant, hey ho, guess what, it's Sunday morning and we are all still here, that is not LJ's fault.

The Bristol Post listed his Highs, here they are ~
    Lee Johnson highs:
    • The late 2017 Carabao Cup quarter-final win over Jose Mourinho and Manchester United
    • Facing Manchester City in the semi-final in early 2018
    • Helping Tammy Abraham break through in senior football
    • Converting Bobby Reid into a striker
    • First win at Sunderland for Bristol City in 25 years
    • First win at QPR in 41 years
    • Winning at Cardiff City for the first time in 17 years
I think the decision to sack LJ has obviously been being prepared and timed carefully to give us and the new manager time to prepare properly and thouroughly for the new season, now that the wedge in the shape of LJ has been removed the fanbase can reunite and we can all move forward and support our team together.

I say good luck to LJ, thankyou and good luck for the future.

At the time of his appointment it was intimated that the Barnsley model of any member leaving would upset the applecart … LEE was persuaded to give up a good chance at Barnsley to take over at Bristol City and thus forgo certain achievements. SL HAD SEEN THE LIGHT OF THE ERROR OF HIS AND THE BOARDS WAYS in kneejerk actions and wanted to WTSC to stop wasting money and put the brakes on and have a plan. Around that time he cashed in a few million and the gameplan was put into action he took faith in his idealism and revamped AG the training ground and gave his (manager) coach "time" to change things do things and hopefully reach the the pinnacle.

but today he is gone... will SL /the board continue the "Barnsley model" and keep the next in line so as not to go through the same as happened before "new manager, new broom, out with the old in with the new 18 month experiment that goes wrong again and in comes a new manager... new broom, out with the old in with the new 18 month experiment etc etc and more contract payments for failures as before.

the time to get rid of a manager is always when the fixtures get easier LIKE NOW... we have HULL CITY, MIDS, STOKE … in anyones book these are far easier games than A DERBY with Cardiff, NottsFlorest, Blackburn and maybe a draw with Sheff wed... The 12 -13 points we would likely have gained under LEE would have had us up around the same as last season!
The board could not risk that happening they have pulled the plug so many times in the past and over the past 2 years have "sold out the team" at the expense of the results …. yes they have balanced the books and now need a scapegoat, and LEE is there way out to say "we did our bit, supplied you the money [ but ok we recycled your best players ] but expected instant results to follow] hopefully the next victim will last as long because the team the squad is almost complete and the results are due follow suit 5 of the easiest 9 games to come and the new "person" in charge will have a superb base to work from and promotion next season must be a minimum requirement... with or without crowds …...

It’s right that we parted company with him.
However, I am disappointed in thinking what might have been. There were glimpses of brilliance amongst the dross and it’s always sad when a plan fails to materialise.
Anyway, onwards and (hopefully) upwards. Whoever takes over won’t have the baggage of having played under his dad for us, so I would expect a certain section of the fan base to cut him a lot of slack and be mighty tolerant.
Let’s hope whoever it is can galvanise the players quickly and get them playing as a team again.

LJ did well in the transfer market, millions spent but millions back to the club selling our best players......possibly his downfall.....be interesting what the next coach does.....Unless SL knows something that we don't....I'm not excited with what's in the running.....but hey...it might be mind blowingly better!!

well cant exactly pin point the transcript but there was a couple of times [ one in particular regarding a comment that no one on here could fathom ] and innuendo's regarding the difficulties of losing your best players and the difficulties that presents. …. [interference from different sources!] ...etc
ALSO how many of the bought in players had good vibes about "how the gaffer came over and the set up " I also wonder how much input SL had in the decision … very little I suspect … has had to "go with the board" …
I think the best thing to have done was promote LEE to an advisory role a job based around training and got in a team manager ….. CITY hails to be be modern ..embracing technology and Lee has been a big part of that would be great to see him go to Barnsley has a better record than Struber! … AND KEEPS THEM UP...
In the past 3 -4 years city has moved the goalposts for coaching and the suchlike the big ? has to be what is the board planning …. a reversal or trying to find someone with the mindset to continue the aims they set up 4 years ago! personally I THINK they called a halt to soon to LEE'S reign 10 games in next season should have been the time ………….

I wonder how much of the buying and selling LJ actually influenced? I think that was all down to Mark Ashton. I’d wager that LJ simply had to work with who MA gave him. Just a guess - I don’t know of course.

I would hope he had some influence, if not, then the next coach has no chance.....

I was thinking about losing Flint, Pack and Webster (although Webster’s fee was too good to refuse) and Brownhill - key players who’s loss made his selection and ‘day job’ more challenging. Why would he opt for that?
We’ll never know I suppose, but I certainly think he wasn’t as ‘in control’ of that side of things to the extent some believe he was.

Every Bristol City signing made under Lee Johnson and where they are now
    Remember all of these Robins?

    Josh Brownhill

Still at Bristol City, under some speculation around his future. Has a release clause that will be activated in the summer.

    Gary O’Neil
Won Bolton’s player of the year in 18/19 and is now without a club after suffering an Achilles injury for an indeterminable period.

    Lee Tomlin
Still plying his trade in South Wales and recently signed a new two-and-a-half-year contract with the Bluebirds. Has 5 goals in 20 appearances this season.

    Diego De Girolamo
After unsuccessful loan spells at Cheltenham Town and Chesterfield and a poor spell at Macclesfield, De Girolamo is still with Northern Premier Division outfit Buxton FC.

    Hordur Magnusson
Still in the Russian capital with CSKA Moscow with 4 goals in 40 appearances in the league and almost helped Iceland to their second ever European Championships.

    Jack Challis
After being released by Bristol City, we’re still unaware of where his career ended up.

    Kodi Lyons-Foster
After being released and brought in by Aldershot, he has gone full circle. After brief spells at Whitehawk and Braintree, he is back at the London club.

    Shabazz Omofe
Last we heard, Omofe was with Chipstead FC in the 7th tier of English football.

    Denis Begovic
After being released by The Robins, he went across the pond to SU Bears in the United States.

    Callum O’Dowda
Has improved massively at Ashton Gate, being a regular around the squad. Has struggled to find his form this season with 1 goal and 1 assist to his name. Signed a three-year contract at the start of this current season.

    Ivan Lucic
Is still with the Austrian side, Austria Wien. He’s played 22 games this season, including a little stint in the Europa League, losing to Apollen Limassol 5-2 on aggregate.

    Taylor Moore
Impressed on loan at Southend United. Moore has been in and out the side this season, playing back up to Ashley Williams, Nathan Baker and Tomas Kalas. Potentially may be a starter come next season.

    Jamie Paterson
Paterson was sent on loan to The Rams, but struggled to make an impact, scoring once in 12 matches. Has since been recalled.

    Peter Odemwingie
Odemwingie signed a short-term contract with Rotherham United and failed to score in his seven games for the club. He then went half-way across the world to Madura United in Indonesia where he scored 15 goals in 24 league games. After struggling to find a club, he announced his retirement in April 2019.

    Gustav Engvall
Still with Belgian side KV Mechelen. Helped them to promotion to the top league in Belgium last season where they are currently fighting for European football.

    Joel Ekstrand
Has since retired from football after his contract being terminated at AIK in his native Sweden.

    Adam Matthews
The Welsh international swapped the North East for the capital. After impressing for Charlton on trial, he signed a one-year deal with The Addicks. He has struggled to secure a starting spot in the first eleven, with a total of 12 appearances for the club.

    Tammy Abraham
Made his mark at his parent club, with 13 goals in 23 Premier League appearances, after successful loans with Bristol City and Aston Villa in the Championship. Also decided on his international future and scored his first Three Lions goal.

    Fabian Giefer
The German is still with Augsburg but hasn’t made an appearance this season.

    David Cotterill
Since being retired, he has been raising awareness for mental health through the David Cotterill foundation after suffering from depression and anxiety. In April 2019, he revealed that he was suffering from alcohol problems, but has made a good recovery since.

    Milan Djuric
After his brief spell with The Robins, he went to US Salernitana. With 6 goals in 26 games, Salernitana avoided relegation through a play-off.

    Jens Hegeler
Hegeler was released by Bristol City after an injury-hit spell kept him far away from the team. The midfielder is still without a club after his release at the end of 2018.

    Bailey Wright
The skipper made the loan move to Sunderland in this window after falling further down the pecking order at Bristol City, with Ashley Williams being bought in and Taylor Moore impressing. His contract is due to expire, and it’s predicted it won’t be renewed.

    Matty Taylor
Taylor is currently fighting for promotion with League One’s Oxford United. He’s struggled to get a permanent spot in the starting eleven with only 12 starts in the league, scoring 6 goals.

    Tin Plavotic
After disappointing in the English game, the 6ft 6 centre-back is back in Austria with Floridsdorfer Athletics Sports Club.

    Eros Pisano
An injury-hit spell at Bristol City didn’t help the Italian. A knee injury and torn hamstring later, he is a free agent and searching for a new club.

    Freddie Hinds
Loaned out to Bath City in January 2019. Initially a one-month loan, eventually extended to the end of the season, scoring 2 goals in 18 games. The following season he joined Colchester United on a short-term loan deal where he hasn’t played a single game.

    Famara Diedhiou
No longer club record signing. Scored 13 goals during the 18/19, which saw The Robins miss out on the play-offs. Currently on course of beating his record of 13 goals in a season with 7 in 23 and potentially a play-off place come the end of the season.

    Nathan Baker
The heartbeat at the back for Bristol City with Webster now in the Premier League. Consistently solid but struggles massively with injury. If kept fit, arguably one of the best centre backs in the league.

    Niclas Eliasson
The Swede has been the shining light at Ashton Gate this season. Despite leading the assist charts in the Championship, he is often rotated between the bench and the starting XI. Plenty of Premier League clubs sniffing about.

    Luke Steele
After joining Nottingham Forest in 2018, he went out on loan to Millwall as part of a short-term deal. He’s only played two games, both being in the Carabao Cup.

    Tyreeq Bakinson
After an impressive loan at Newport County, Bakinson was kept by Lee Johnson, but was eventually sent out on loan to Plymouth Argyle this month. In his three games, he has shone and is earning rave reviews in Devon.

    Rory Holden
The 22-year-old suffered a lack of games at Barrow and Rochdale but has received plenty of minutes at Walsall. Despite playing 16 games, the striker is yet to hit the back of the net at the time of writing.

    Antoine Semenyo
Impressed the fans at Rodney Parade last season. Started three games this season with no goals or assists to his name. Signed a 4-year deal for Bristol City at the start of the season, so looks like he may have a future if he takes his chances.

    Jonathan Leko
Sent on loan to Charlton Athletic by parent club, West Bromwich Albion. Played a key role in The Addicks amazing early season form. Unfortunately, Leko suffered an ACL injury, ruling him out for the rest of the season.

    Cauley Woodrow
Went on loan to Barnsley at the start of the 2018/19 season. The move was made permanent in January 2019 after 4 goals in 10 games. He finished that season on 16 goals and helped The Tykes to promotion to the Championship. Woodrow will be a key figure in Barnsley’s side if they are to avoid relegation.

    Ryan Kent
Kent made the switch from Liverpool to Glasgow permanent in the summer, costing Rangers an initial fee of £6.5million. The Englishman has been pivotal for Rangers as they seek to overthrow their city rivals and become Champions of Scotland for the first time since 2011.

    Lois Diony
Diony is still with Saint-Etienne after the disappointing loan spell at BS3. He’s struggled to make an impact with the French club with only 1 goal to his name this season.

    Liam Walsh
The former Everton man wasn’t needed by Lee Johnson this season and was sent on loan to League 1 promotion chasers, Coventry City. Walsh has impressed thus far and will be looking to earn another deal at Ashton Gate.

    Marley Watkins
Another City signing that hasn’t impress and failed to nail down a starting spot. 6 appearances and one goal against a struggling Luton side.

    Adam Webster
After an incredible season that saw The Robins just four points off the play-offs and Webster named Player of the Year by the supporters, Brighton smashed their transfer record to sign the defender for £20million, rising to £22million. Despite three goals this season, two of which coming against Tottenham and Arsenal, Webster has had mixed reviews from the Brighton faithful.

    Hakeeb Adelakun
The 23-year-old struggled to get back into the squad after an ankle injury left him out for 14 weeks. Has been surplus to requirements this season and was sent on loan to Rotherham for the remainder of the season this month.

    Andreas Weimann
The Austrian international must be a joy to play with, continuously working hard for his team. He finished last season with a bang, scoring Bristol City’s first hat-trick away from home since Kevin Mabbutt in 1978. The number 14 has played every league game this season, with 12 goal contributions (9 goals and 3 assists) this season, as The Robins look for promotion.

    Jack Hunt
Hunt has been a regular in The Robins defense. He’s been a good threat going forward, accumulating 5 assists this season, but has struggled defensively. His contract runs out at the end of next season.

    Mo Eisa
Eisa continued to struggle for game time at Ashton Gate. 25 minutes of game time in the Championship for The Robins meant he was out the door in the following summer. Peterborough paid an undisclosed club record fee for the striker. The 25-year old has 13 goals in 24 starts and is battling for the Golden Boot with his teammate, Ivan Toney.

    Niki Maenpaa
The club triggered an extension in his contract to keep the Finnish international at Ashton Gate for one more season. With Daniel Bentley coming in this season, Maenpaa has been relegated to the bench and his number 2.

    Jay Dasilva
After impressing during his loan spell at The Gate, last season, his move was made permanent for an undisclosed fee. However, his start to the season was the greatest, as he was sidelined for five months with a stress fracture in his lower leg. He has only recently made his way back into the side and set up the all-important goal in The Robins’ last run out against Barnsley.

    Tomas Kalas
Another Chelsea loanee that impressed and was bought in to bolster Bristol City’s defensive ranks for a club record fee in the region of £8million. Kalas hasn’t made the same impact as last season, with only 12 appearances in the league, compared to 38 the season prior, due to an injury hampered season.

    Kasey Palmer
The third and final Chelsea loanee that was made permanent this summer. Palmer shone last season with his vision and passing ability being his main strengths and The Robins paid around £3.5million to acquire his services. However, there has been plenty of speculation surrounding his future at the club, with a possible swap with Charlton Athletic’s Lyle Taylor.

    Stefan Marinovic
The Kiwi was bought in for cover last season as both Fielding and Maenpaa were nursing injuries. His only appearance came in a 1-1 draw at home to Ipswich Town.

    Daniel Bentley
Has very much impressed between the sticks since his arrival from Brentford. The 26-year old has kept 8 clean sheets this season and has been called up when needed, with the third most amount of saves in the division with 88. One of the signings of the season.

    Louis Britton
The former painter-decorator is currently down the road playing for Bath City. The 18-year old has 1 goal in 8 appearances for The Romans.

    Robbie Cundy
The 22-year old defender, who was bought in from Bath City, was originally loaned out to Exeter City. This move quickly turned sour, as he wasn't in the match day squad for any of their matches in August and was recalled. He then ventured to the South Coast, where he has been a solid player for Torquay.

    Rene Gilmartin
The Irishman has been bought with the coaching side of his profile in mind. He is currently the U21’s goalkeeping coach and is the third-choice keeper if needed.

    Tommy Rowe
Rowe has had to mix up his game since arriving at BS3, with his appearances coming either at left midfield or left back, due to the lengthy injury sustained by Jay DaSilva. The 31-year old has adjusted well, scoring 2 goals and being a dangerous threat on the attack as well as being comfortable in defense.

    Sammie Szmodics
After being Colchester United’s top scorer for two successive seasons, he was snapped up on a free by City. With no place in the starting eleven for him, he was sent on a six-month loan deal to Peterborough United this month.

    Han-Noah Massengo
Massengo has eased into Championship life so elegantly and is showing maturity way past his years, but Johnson wants to nurture him carefully and not burn him out. The Frenchman is certainly one for the future.

    Adam Nagy
The Hungarian international was another midfielder that had big expectations when arriving at Ashton Gate. However, an injury to his ankle meant he missed a large chunk of the season so far. With his admission of being homesick, Nagy has struggled to settle properly, but has vowed to help Bristol City climb the table.

    Ashley Williams
Another top signing made by Lee Johnson. The Welsh captain struggled massively with Stoke City in the previous season and with him being 35 years of age, his career seemed to be pretty much over. Williams has been irreplaceable at the back for Bristol City and has seen his contract extended to the end of the season.

    Rodri
City snapped Rodri up as a free agent until January, with the option of an extension to June 2020. He was released after The Robins rejected the chance of the extension. He made six appearances and only one start.

    Pedro Pereira
The young Portuguese has made an adequate start to life in the South West. 15 appearances, 10 of which being starts and 1 goal. Come the end of his loan, City have the chance to sign him for £6 million.

    Benik Afobe
Three goals in six appearances, The Robins seemed to have found their star man. Unfortunately, Afobe suffered an ACL injury in training which was feared that this would rule him out for the rest of the season. He has recently hinted at the possible return from injury after posting on his Instagram story.

62 players, quite an assortment, I would call that fantastic backing for LJ by our club, sorry, we deserved better from him.

Fair comment, nice to know we have some observant members on here, doesn't change the fact he was one of the better signings of LJ's 62.

Without making excuses for LJ, Brownhill leaving seemed to herald the start of our (latest) poor run of form.
