Good Morning. It's Monday 6th July, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road Comfortable win for Pace setters Leeds Blackburn Rovers lost only their fourth home game of the season as Leeds kept safe distance between themselves and the chasing pack. A tap in from Bamford, and an exquisite free kick courtesy of Phillips put the Whites in the driving seat at half time. It could have been very different had Rovers taken their chances. Soon after Bamford had given the Whites the lead, Gallagher missed a guilt edged opportunity to equalise. The former England U20 International was clean through on the Leeds goal with only Meslier to beat, but fortunately for the Whites, he dragged the ball wide. Leeds rode their luck again minutes later when Gallacher threaded a ball to Holtby, who struck the post for six yards with Meslier beaten at his near post. Just after the break Blackburn were back in the game. Rovers were gifted a free kick on the edge of the area. Adam Armstrong took full advantage of the referee's donation, and duly reduced the deficit by one. Leeds refused to get flustered and went searching for the third goal. They were rewarded five minutes later when Klich fired a low drive through a crowded penalty area to beat Walton at the far post. Fulham, Brentford and West Brom all won too. Leeds do not play again until Thursday when Stoke City are the visitors to Eland Road (5pm KO). Fulham travel to the City Ground (Forest) tomorrow whilst on form Brentford entertain Charlton. The Bees have won 5 on the trot, and have not conceded a goal in any of these games. Douglas or Dallas once the Northern Ireland International returns from injury? Will Leeds be able to keep the distance? Bielsa's post Match reaction Augustin has no expectation of playing for Leeds again - Hay Former Chief Football writer for the Yorkshire Evening Post Phil Hay revealed last night that he had spoken to “sources close to Augustin” and said the player has “no expectation of playing for the club again.” “Sources close to Augustin have told The Athletic that his 48 minute Leeds Utd career is over. Hay wrote :- “He has no expectation of playing for the club again and does not think Bielsa has any intention of persisting with him. “All that remains is a battle between Leeds and Leipzig as the former try to escape their obligation and the latter hold out for an agreed fee of around £18 million.” German media outlet Kicker continue to claim that if the Whites backout of the 18m deal to sign the former PSG striker, parent club Leipzig will take the West Yorkshire club to Court to recoup their owed monies. Augustin has already cost Leeds 3.5m to cover the loan period / wages for the 23yo. please log in to view this image
Good Morning to Matt and co from a dull Bardsey With regard to Augustine surely all Leeds have to do is fail him at the medical He is unfit and therefore is no saleable I hope Brentford slip up because they will easily win the [playoffs as they are the best team in the league at the moment scoring most goals and having the meanest defence If we do win promotion I hope they don't mess the recruitment up yet again we need 2 strikers just in case on gets injuredand 2 centre backs for Cooper and White In order to save money I suggest that we get Ayala on a free he will not be bullied b y the opposition John Swift at £4m will make a good aquistion for Hernandez Pleased that Che Adams scored his first goal yesterday for Saints but McCarthy was the star player
Morning Mike, We're being heavily linked with Norwich playmaker Emi Buendía. He was the guy that Norwich poached under our noses when he was playing on loan at Cultural Leonesa, supposedly a feeder club for us. He was on loan at CL, from Getafe.
There is no way Ayala would be able to play the way we play, nowhere near good enough. But of a brute of a defender which we have moved away from and also would not fit in the Premier league either. As for Swift. A decent championship player who is the best player at Reading without a doubt. Both those comments on him should be what puts us off looking at him when we go up. We should be looking at a higher class of player.
Morning all, we really need to get a playmaker sorted ASAP as Pablo’s effective contribution is now likely measurable in months rather than years, sadly, and he will be difficult to replace. We have Roberts and he has the talent but currently lacks that edge that sets Pablo apart, allowing him to see and complete the killer pass and importantly hit the net regularly himself. Can that be coached in or is it a natural gift? Our competitors all have that one guy that makes them work - Pereira, Norwood, Cairney, Grealish, Dack, Bowen, Benrahma, the list goes on. Ours is Pablo, but he’s approaching his expiry date. Buendia? Better than Roberts currently for what we need from him. Eze would be a better option maybe.
I’ve made my views on bamford’s Issues in front of goal - but let’s be fair - it was a good finish not a tap in.
spot on - I like Roberts, has plenty of ability, is still very young and is great when given space. He’s less good when breaking down packed defences (but not alone in that as it’s difficult) - and also has ongoing injury concerns. priorities: striker and no 10, whether we go up or not.
With Augustin, I thought part of the agreement with Leipzig was that it’s an obligation to sign if we go up, and if Augustin wants to join? If he turns round and rejects the chance (which sounds very likely), then Leipzig can’t force him, surely? Would’ve thought that would be the end of it, but perhaps it’s too simplistic a view! With Norwich as good as down, Buendia would be a good option if/when we go up. He may have attracted glances from higher up though.
Brentford will probably beat Charlton but you'd have to wonder how long can they keep the winning streak going. To win their remaining five games would take the streak to 10 in a row. I can't see that happening.
It was not a good finish. It could not have been laid on a plate for him better. Side foot straight from 8 yards. Davy would have scored it.
I've been meaning to suggest John Swift for a while. Buendia is quality but would cost a huge amount of our likely investment. I agree with Leeds60 - 2 central defenders an absolute priority and at least 1 dependable goalscorer.
Afternoon all... I’d imagine there will be a few bargains available at the end of the season with many clubs looking to reduce their wage bills. I’d guess we will owe a chunk of money on bonuses if we get promoted and I can’t help feel Costas £15m purchase price is far too steep, nice problem to have though as it will mean PL footie
well he’s missed a lot of easier chances! It was a good finish and it was from outside the penalty spot. love to see your property descriptions, ‘yes sir this semi-detached bungalow has 23 bedrooms and 14 bathrooms - and that’s just the shed. Are the roof tiles slate? No, sir, pure gold, just a bit dirty’
