I suspect that this time will have to be different, otherwise the club will go nowhere. If the owners and Ashton don't see that then I can see the fans voting with their feet this time. The club has 20,000 crowds now and I would be amazed if the club jeopardised that.

The vitriol was self inflicted, his inability to take responsibility and the same excuses at the same time 3 years on the trot.

I think also he struggled to deal with big players, like when it comes down to dressing room showdowns and somebody who has done a bit and is an international can say to the likes of Johnson "and what have you done" when he criticises.

The new boss needs to be somebody who can say "I will bring my medals and caps in and show you what i've done".

Some posters are talking about Steven Gerard on OTIB.
Not really thought about him previously but Steven Gerard’s Bristol City will get sky on board.
One other name not being talked about too much. John Terry, how long do you think he wants to be assistant manager?
But in fairness we all now we won’t be getting who we think or hope we get.
Chris Hughton may get teams promoted but they are not always the best looking footballing teams.

Gerard has done nothing and in the current climate John Terry would be more toxic than the statue of Edward Colston.

As for Hughton, the trick for city over the past 5 years is getting promoted from the 1st division, secondly for once consolidating as a top half championship side, the next trick get into the play offs or gain promotion to the prem and Hughton has done that, we are Bristol City not Barcelona.

    What did Frank Lampard do?

Mick McCarthy has been promoted a few times from Championship, do you want him?

Chris Hughton, David Wagner or Sam Allardyce would do a great job for you.

Either of them I feel will get you up next season <ok>

This season he’s been a failure but in fairness to him we’re in a better position than when he took over , my hope is the job will be more appealing now because of that and hopefully the standard of applicant will therefore be higher.

He took over Cotts’s sinking ship and steadied it for us. Now we need someone to help us to push on and deliver Premiership football at Ashton Gate.

    Fairness ?

Fairness is recognising the Lansdown millions that steadied the ship.
I'll be surprised the next manager whoever appointed won't get anything like the zillions afforded Johnson.
I'll also be surprised, should Johnson get a job anywhere, that he's allowed to sign the number of players he did at AG in 4 years.
He'll end up as a TV pundit for a while and then disappear into property development.
He's been found out, at last.

I think Frank Lampard was always a safeish bet, he's intelligent and was prepared to do a years apprenticeship, he was prepared unlike any other Chelsea manager over the past 20 years to actually give some of the huge amount of talent in their hugely under used academy a chance and with a bit of experienced being added to the squad is building a very good team.

Gerrard IMHO is still trying to close the gap and make Scottish football a 2 horse race once more, I think David Blunkett's guide dog could have done that.

McCarthy is a no, no for me probably to confrontational for our owners.

Our gashead friend mentioned Allardyce and he is tainted by his greed.

The bookies favourite ATM is Ryan Lowe and I have to say if the club go down that route again then it shows that rugby has become the biggest priority for our owners, it will show total lack of ambition and total lack of empathy for the fans.

I'm a bit sad that LJ didn't work out but he had to go. My bruv who has supported city for over 40 years wouldn't go to games until he'd gone. So at least when the ground reopens we will be able to go to games together again.

I hope SL goes for an experienced manager this time who will command respect from the players. We need someone who knows how to succeed at this level. Could be a foreign coach, as long as he has a good CV. Don't want another young lower league manager personally.

Lampard had no choice but to use the youth in Chelsea, so we can’t say how he would of been regarding playing youth if that transfer ban was not in place.

All I said regarding Gerard was we would become Sky’s Steven Gerard’s Bristol City. He may be in a two horse race with Celtic which unfortunately any Rangers manager will ever become. Some on OTIB have put some really good argument for. Would he be interested in us, no he probably never heard of us much.
Hughton is as RR claims already ours because he’s what most of our fans want so it’s constantly repeated on Twitter by
Roy The Alien who is just someone pretending to be in the know. When in fact Hughton turned Watford down before Pearson went there, got history with Birmingham who are finally sorting out their money issues by fines etc.
Mick McCarthy worked wonders with Ipswich on no money they didn’t play unattractive football, used youth a lot. Once he left they fell apart and the rest history. Would he be too strong against the board? I don’t know he put up with Ipswich with no money given to him.
John Terry was toxic in something he mainly done about 15-20 years ago. His racist comment has been also documented. But have any black, Asian players ever turned against him? Has great links with Chelsea, Mourinho loves him so loan players would be a plenty likewise with Gerard.

A lot of fans really want Paul Cook, now I bet a lot of people on here would be against that. But given their money issues won’t be too difficult to get.

Me I’ve already said, I want us to go foreign.

Who I think it will be, is Ashley Williams as our board likes that.

hang on most of the money for players came from sales! and the fact these sales balanced the books, his millions helped the stadium become a multi functional venue for football and RUGBY his other love with 2 entities supporting stadium costs and other aspects of vendors rents has meant stadium is not so much a burden on any sport there ….

You will always have negative attitude to LEE even if he had taken us and brought us back down after a year or 2 ………….

the "newbie" needs to be a fit into the jigsaw puzzle of AG … RP keeps on about SL zillions he gave to Lee ...wrong his millions was spent on putting into place what we have now "the AG setup" .. an dog with old tricks is hard to teach new ones. You sell partly trained sheep dogs, or puppies not long in tooth .. same with some people you employ ...you want them to fit in not disrupt what you have then leave or get sacked...
