Around '50% of non-playing staff' at Wigan were told on Monday they were being released.

Its still shocking that given the number of clubs on shaky finances, it's Wigan that this is happening to.

I acknowledge that City are on relatively stable financial grounds. However, I presume the club would be vulnerable to Allamhouse calling in the debt and ending up in a similar situation?

For me, the EFL need to seriously start looking at owners of clubs, & their own rules of fit & proper.
Us, Bury, Bolton, Wigan, Blackpool, Charlton, Macclesfield. That’s just the ones I can think of. It says a lot about how much they check on backgrounds. They probably just check how much they’re getting out of it.

I know we all hate the Allams and rightly so from a fans point of view, but I highly doubt the they would fail any sort of EFL owners test if one ever came about. In the eyes of the EFL, they would just see somebody running a football club within their means. They would never punish an owner for trying to run a club without making a loss

The problem is that the Allams' plan won't keep the club financially secure at all. Eventually, there won't be enough money coming in the further we drop. It's an incredibly short sighted and quite frankly ****ing stupid plan for supposed business geniuses.

Running a club efficiently without loss? That's great.

Running a club in a way that will slowly kill it? That's not ****ing fit and proper at all.

I was debating us, however I was thinking about the previous owners who nearly killed us, also, as Quill says, the way it’s going, it’s not a feasible way of operating a club.

    Really? What is then?
    They’re living within their means.
hoping to produce players through the youth system and sell on and signing promising players with a future value.
Only an owner with a few hundred million can do it any other way, as king as they’re prepared to lose that few hundred million. over to you two experts to tell us how to do it

Yes, living within our means, but are we really doing it well?
I’m assuming the Allams are trying to follow the Brentford model. That’s not a bad thing, but the way they are trying, seems to be all over the place, they admit not knowing much, if anything, about football & seem to see it as an income for themselves. Have they made a good scouting system? Unknown, as there seems to be some good players, but a lot have injury issues, which is why we get them cheap or for nothing. Manager, we have been poor for a long time, McCann is out of his depth, unless he suddenly manages to change his ideas & change tactics.
Where is the money? Has the debt owed to them come down? Has the asking price dropped?

They must know something about football after nearly a decade of ownership ?
They just don't know anything about PR.

Wigan Warriors have announced they are tabling a bid to buy Wigan Athletic and have notified administrators of their interest (BBC Sport)

Ian Lenaghan is looking to buy them, not Wigan Warriors. He just happens to own the Rugby side as well.

Imagine the uproar on here if Hull FC tabled a bid for Hull City!

I see they are appealing against the points deduction on the grounds of Force Majeure because of the pandemic. It appears there is a condition in league rules that allows for this. I guess it is possible they might get a reprieve if it can be proved the Pandemic was the cause of the club going into administration. I guess we have to wait and see.

With the losses they have made over the last few years, I'd be surprised if they win the appeal

They have made losses, which football club doesn't, but I am sure the administrators said that the losses were controlled and not worthy of any worry. The pandemic could be deemed to have accelerated it
