We have one keeper who may be promising but hasn’t shown enough to be first choice right now One keeper who is lower PL level One keeper who has been utter ****e for along time when playing for us, but maybe back to his best. Which was average anyway. Signing a new keeper wouldn’t be massively high up my list of priorities but if we are shopping around all 3 to try and get 1 off our books and decent offers come in for 2 of them I’d let them go and sign a new keeper and keep whichever of the 3 that’s left (yes I know this isn’t football manager)
We need to sell or at least a loan, with 100% wage contribution, 1 of 3 keepers. Seems McCarthy is the no.1 so it won't be him - I guess we consider either Forster or Gunn as adequate back up - so are happy to sell whichever of those will generate/free up the most money. Obviously in an ideal world you'd keep Gunn due to his age, but the priority will be freeing up wages and maybe getting a transfer fee to reinvest elsewhere.
I haven't seen anything on here regarding the statement Maya issued following his departure from the club. Really sad to see him leave. He was an absolute gent and a role model for the club.
morning Ian. It was posted at the time... twice https://www.not606.com/threads/saints-stuff.313456/page-639 and yes, an absolute gent and legend
God we went on such a tear when he first came back from the knee injury. I can remember Fonte saying after one game “There’s no way you’re scoring against us now “. And it wasn’t all good defensive organisation either. Forster made a string of worldies but the ones in that Arsenal game were unreal. It’s a ludicrous revisionism to pretend that he was somehow never good and that performances like that and the ones for Celtic in the CL just didn’t happen.
All down to opinions init. I'd argue that it's ludicrous revisionism to say he was ever anything better than an average PL goalkeeper. Those 6 games were more down to the fact we changed formation to a back 3 than Fraser imo, and although he did make some brilliant saves at Arsenal, I don't recall him earning us points with 'worldies' in any of those other 5 games. If I was being really critical I could also point out that he should have saved the first goal (Hazard at SMS) that we conceded after that run too. Those pesky low shots again.
Messi once called him “the wall” after a brilliant display whilst playing for Celtic first time round. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/f...dia-label-Fraser-Forster-La-Gran-Muralla.html
That's good news. Even if he doesn't pan out on the pitch, if he has another growth spurt, we can use him as a support pillar for a third tier.
Insult? Course not, what makes you say that Was being generous actually, you'd think he was the English Anti Niemi the way some people bang on about him.
I think with forster people can see the raw components of what should be a very intimidating top class keeper and keep hoping it will happen. He is a decent keeper but could be so much more. If he had the mindset to dominate the box most forwards wouldn't go anywhere near a cross but he for whatever reason just doesn't play that way.
