Cops have cracked an encrypted messaging service used by high level criminals called Encrochat, which had an esimated 60,000 users with 10,000 being in the UK. This has resulted in them having access to over a hundred million messages and has led to some of the biggest busts ever seen in the UK. At the moment, it's 746 arrests made with 55 cars, 2 ton of drugs, loads of firearms and ammo and 54 million in cash recovered. As well as gold, jewellery and an illegal drugs lab making fake valium. https://www.standard.co.uk/news/cri...gency-operation-arrests-murders-a4486926.html
Hopefully this is just the tip of the iceberg. Top work by the authorities to be fair ... ... let's hope Donald and Methven are next to be pulled.
They must be virtually done with it if they're revealing the information. Why publicise it otherwise.
Probably to try to encourage people to come forward with information. If people know that the criminals are being locked up they'll feel safer. Just a thought ....
We are going to need a big jail built Boris has said he intends get more housing Well let’s get more jails and get these scum off the streets There will be plenty of staff wanting to work in them
Heard there is a lot of EU scum in our prisons, so maybe we could free up a bit of space by deporting these back, now we can alter the deportation rules
It was always difficult to deport these prisoners Maybe it has become easier, but it will still be expensive
We both know from experience Vince that the Prison Service needs more prisons and a hell of a lot more Prison Officers. We've been advocating this for 30 years. Sadly, with the debt caused by Covid, it's not likely to happen any time soon.
Seems the company operating the service ( and providing the special phones) realised they had been infiltrated and "pulled the plug". So no need to be careful anymore...
It's weird this because I quite frequently google 'biggest busts in the uk' and this hasn't once come up on my search results. I'll redouble my efforts, cheers.
Not by a long shot, just gone for the biggest fish they could catch in the first wave, which by far will have the greatest impact on distribution networks. All the info they gathered is still with the cops and they'll get round to lower players in time. Encrochat themselves found the system had been hacked by the French authorities in June and shut the network down, so it's been well known in criminal circles for a while the system was comprimised. I',m more inclined to think the authorities are happy for that information to be out there due to the arrests they have already made and get a bit of good publicity. Deservedly so imo.
Just type encrochat bust into google. First four pages are articles on it that have beed published in the last 24 hours. This is a good one. https://edition.cnn.com/2020/07/02/uk/encrochat-crime-messaging-cracked-intl-gbr-scli/index.html Add to what was seized in the UK, which included one person having 5 million in cash, which is the most the Met has ever grabbed on one person, the Dutch got 60 arrests, 20 tonnes of drugs, 20 million Euros in cash, automatic weapons and ammo, the obligatory watches and cars, as well as 19 synthetic drug labs.
