More than anything, I hope that gives the squad some confidence. Vs Birmingham as soon as their first went in you could see it hit every one of them hard, an ugly as a 3 a.m. pull in the tower win coming from behind should be massive for all of them. Let us not get ahead of ourselves though, there are a number of seemingly glaring issues with us, first and foremost is the space we give teams on the pitch, at times Boro would get the ball and our back 4 would be just outside our area, our front 3 near theirs and the middle 3 with 80% of the pitch to cover. It's no wonder our defence and midfiled get pulled apart and slagged off for it so easily, its impossible to defend that much space. It was noticable how much we struggled to retain possession as Boro, for as **** as they are as well, defended as a team in a compact press which meant we were always under pressure, and basically just hoofing it, and then on the occassions when the hoof worked, you'd have Magennis, Wilks, Scott or KLP on their own surrounded by 2 or 3 Boro players very quickly. It's no wonder they barely saw the ball. All of this comes from 1 person only and that's McCann.
I think we need to enjoy it but we cannot play like that and hope to get the results needed to stay up.
What was glaring to me was, the attempt to clear the ball down the line when closed down. 90% of this attempts didnt go near one of ours. Do it when you have time to pick a pass, failing that, Row Z and re-organise...
We're well. Thanks. Hope you and all others are well too as much as possible. Keep doing well. Covid in Russia it's a huge circus! I'll try to explain a bit later.
Great game, great performance, great result. McCann got his selection, subs and tactics absolutely spot on. We are one of the best teams in the league we have just been unlucky with injuries and fine margins.
Not a great performance and improvements needed for Sunday at WBA, but that late win should give us a boost for the next half a dozen games. Did some good things at times, but we looked a nervy side shot on confidence. We've given ourselves a chance with this scruffy win, let's build on it.
'Look at the celebration in their faces' - Nigel Adkins delivers verdict on Hull City's win over Middlesbrough. https://t.co/BZLMl4jlu2 Nige. Top man.
Our style of play was what was called years ago kick and rush, but no matter how you play a win is a win and it was vital that we won this game today
Despite the win it’s blindingly obvious we are a poor side and struggling . Most City fans I speak too are fully aware of why this is the case and realise it’s been a long slow decline since the owners decided to jump ship and try and sell the club. Whatever division we do end up in the real issues behind our demise lie deeper than current form and that for me is more concerning than the short term outlook.
Ah yes, let's single Honeyman out as normal. The only midfield player who came on and passed the ball well tonight was Toral. Actually thought Honeyman was marginally more effective than Stewart or Batty in stopping Boro playing - in fact quite a lot more effective than Batty who too often seemed to let them go past him.
