The accident happened on the SP146, a winding road through the countryside between the towns of Pienza and San Quirico d'Orcia. Reports from witnesses say that Zanardi lost control, overturned and went into the oncoming lane, where he struck the vehicle. Because the accident occurred in a wooded area the helicopter couldn’t land at the site, and Zanardi had to be transferred to a field, where the helicopter could land. Italian newspaper La Repubblica quoted Mario Valentini, the coach of the Italian team, as saying that the truck had tried to avoid the collision. “It happened on a straight downhill, just before the road makes a slight bend,” he said. “Alex slightly crossed into the other lane. The truck tried to steer but was not able to avoid the impact.”
Yes . Bloody horrid . Must admit , I feel very sorry for the Lorry Driver . Alex is an inspiration to Millions , and it appears the driver could do nothing .
Well done Mercedes. Right move, done in the right way, and the right message from Toto. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/formula1/53218197
It's one angle I hadn't really considered: Ferrari in recent years starts most seasons abysmally, and catches up by mid-year. What happens in a season where their mad scramble to fix all of the things they ****ed up in the new design only costs them a couple races?
Zanardi has undergone a second operation . Still serious , but everything crossed ! https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/disability-sport/53225048
Excellent article! And, dead right, to be honest. The old British way of “let’s build them up so we can knock them down”, again?
Cheers Dave. You know I'm not a fan of his, but the recent global events, and his statements, have really made me look at my own subconscious bias, and also why he gets castigated to an extent that others don't (for remarkably similar things). It shows what he's said is working.
Exactly my feeling. I was a big fan of his at the beginning (as was my boy who met him when driving in Formula Ford - Lewis made a point of coming over to the junior drivers and having a chat with them and my boy said he was very humble about the whole thing), but then I think he surrounded himself a bit too much with the wrong types (which is very easy to do - so many “personalities” have done so) and got a bit too much up his own arse, so, like a lot of people, I went off him, though still admire his driving skills. Now he seems to be turning himself round a bit and giving back, I think he deserves to be considered a “Great Briton” - god knows we could do with someone right now!
Hamilton p1ssed that’s some drivers not comfortable taking the knee. He told them that “silence is generally complicit” I don’t like that and I think it’s wrong. I didn’t like the “Silence is Violence” banners at he protests either.
