Just seen the replay of their goal. When I saw it at first I thought how woeful we were not picking Wickham up, but seeing the replay it was a very clever little set piece, with the 2 SW players blocking Baker from tracking him.
Bristol City FC @BristolCity GOAL: #BristolCity 0-2 Sheffield Wednesday [Luongo 59'] Mäenpää makes an outstretched save to his right to push Murphy's fierce strike behind. The resultant corner drops for Luongo who finds the back of the net from close range.
Goal: 0-2 Robins going down here and have a mountain to climb: Luongo stabs in at the near post following another corner.
More on the goal More poor defending at set-pieces and this Robins team is spiralling downwards... Wickham then misses a chance to wrap things up. So far City haven’t turned up in this second half.
Goal: 1-2 (Wells) Robins back in it as Dasilva stands up a cross and Baker heads at goal. Wildsmith saves but Wells pockets the rebound.
More on the goal Not over here just yet, Diedhiou and Nagy have rejuvenated the home side. Wells with three in six starts for City now.
FT: 1-2 - woeful run continues for City Not good enough from the Robins today. Wednesday shaded this and though not a lot between the sides, City had way more weaknesses than their opponents on show. Dreadful defending on two set-pieces and that’s that for the play-offs, in our opinion.
As bad as last week. The midfield for 2nd week running was appallingly weak, slow, predictable and totally non creative. Outplayed, out muscled in another men against boys performance. ODowda please somebody explain how he even gets into the match day squad?, Smith and Weimann were poor all game, Massengo tried but is too weak. Hunt was the worst player on the field. I cannot wait to hear Johnson latest post match bullshit. Nowhere near good enough, again one team wanted it and one did not.
Strangely I feel quite relaxed now that we’ve blown another chance at making the playoffs. I can concentrate on my DIY now without worrying that I might be missing something.....
Pi$$ poor! No energy, no mobility, just long hopeful balls - dire!! Williams was a disgrace today, totally uninterested, and how CoD keeps getting picked is behind me.
Sorry to say that whole midfield are poor including Korey Smith, all too lightweight, no aggression, don’t win balls and keep giving the ball away
Every time I watch Bannon, I think how he would be great in City’s midfield. If Weds do get points deduction and relegation, he is one we should go after. Mass ego would learn a lot more from him than Smith or O’Dowda
I gave on his post match bullshit after a minute, he seems to think that we played ok and didn't deserve to lose and of course blaming the players, well both goals came from glaring defensive mistakes, but what about the utterly weak and useless midfield he has put together, we had 3 shots on target all game, he said Baker should have scored, well maybe, but if he had scored I guarantee that it would have been disallowed Baker was climbing all over the defender. He said Wells should scored again maybe but it was a half chance at best. As I said to a LJ glee clubber last week, to win games you have to create chances and we do not create chances, playing Afobe wide left is a joke, bringing back Wiemann was a poor decision, having ODowda in the squad is a shocking decision and his midfield is totally unfit for purpose. I have personally had enough of him.
Massengo , O’Dowda and Smith in midfield wasn’t going to win the midfield , I felt sorry for our strikers having to live off scraps. Afobe looked sharp but didn’t get the ball in dangerous areas . I hope I’m wrong and we win the next three games, but I can’t see it. We had to win today to be in with a chance of the playoffs really and never really looked like it , especially once they scored. I’ve stuck by LJ so far as he’s done a good job I feel in getting us this far , but he now looks to have run out of ideas, bearing in mind there’s going to be so little time between the end of this season and next I wonder whether we should now look to bring someone else in. Surely the next week will determine if he’s here next season , unless we win the next two games I think it’s time for him to go.
He put Afobe out wide left, WTF is that all about? and you are right I too feel sorry for the strikers having to try to feed off of that useless midfield, fair play to Wells he has had maybe 4 chances in total since he arrived and put 3 of them away and all headers, which to me shows where the problem lies. That's 9 games without a win, I cannot see how we can possibly win games with our midfield, he has to play Palmer until the end of the season, he is the only midfielder capable of playing balls to feet to unlock defences and I feel we now have nothing to lose, set up to WIN and not set up not to lose.
