Match day and a little less than buzzing. Seen it all. Done it all. Heard it all. Bored to death with it all.
I'm expecting the Saints that play well in bursts, are occasionally amateurish, and never consistent.
Physical, hungry. He's been getting the attention for not scoring. If he doesn't get the minutes, he can't put it right.
I didn’t think Obafami was particular good against Norwich. Che should have been given half an hour at least that day. I’d play Shane today, hope to get the win and then tell Che he is getting all the remaining games, no matter what. I’m sure I read someone say that a player needs a run of games to show themselves... 6-10 games
At this level, when you get a chance you have to take it. 6-10 games to prove themselves is a luxury most players probably wouldn’t expect to get.
Strange mixed matchday emotions, looking forward to the 'piped crowd noise person' having a stinker. And, then Vestergaard. I like him as a bloke but find he provokes constant anxiety in me when playing. One of the few good things about the bizzare nature of this season ending is that games come wizzing round, a bit like they did in the L1 days. So not too long to stew after a poor result. I'm going 2-2, with Ings and Vestergaard scoring (for us).
I sort of take the point with Boufal, because I can see something rare there. Che Adams has probably had enough chances. He’ll get another before the end of the season, and he needs to find the back of the net, because that’s what he’s there for. Because Rickie could come from the lower leagues and scored in the PL, and Jamie Vardy has too, it’s tempting to think Che can do the same; but both those players hit the ground running at every level they played at, they didn’t need loads of chances to prove themselves.
So I guess we're all expecting/hoping for McCarthy KWP Bednarek Vestegaard Bertrand Armstrong JWP Hojbjerg Redmond Long Ings Gunn, Valery, Danso, Vokins, Boufal, Romeu, Smallbone, Obafemi, Adams
Other than against City, Spurs and Liverpool - and you could argue that we were unlucky in all three - I think our only away defeats have been against Newcastle, Burnley and West Ham. Who are arguably the only negative sides in the league? Newcastle, Burnley, West Ham and Watford. Maybe the only other side you can include would be Palace. I don't imagine that it'll be particularly easy to play our successful away style today, because I don't see Watford being particularly interested in wanting to pass the ball or expose themselves. Once we're faced with either having to play like the home side, or going toe-to-toe in a hard fought scrap, we generally know the outcome.
I feel a bit like that (though hope to enjoy the odd win), but still glad to finish it so it seems a proper season where teams have a true chance to finish in the correct position.
Maybe try Romeu in the middle to add a bit of physicality and extra defensive cover, i've got a feeling that today will be a bit of a war out there.
