Horrific news for the blind, wheelchair-bound and mobility impaired. And cyclists. And people going about their business.

But hey, ****s can get pissed so it's all good.

So that's the North stand, seating at the back and on top will be a hollywood bowl stage for concerts.

As this already happens in pretty much every town and city in Spain, Portugal, Italy, France, Greece etc, I suspect we'll just about manage.

Long term fix suitable for global warming in the UK

I've always said that Vicky Square should be like the square in the middle of Bruges. Somewhere to sit and watch the world go by, while you get very pissed.

It happens in plenty of UK towns as well. But the restrictions aren’t there just to get in the way, they are there to look after everyone that needs to use our roads and pavements. And these restrictions have now seemingly been swept away.

Similar restrictions apply in Spain, Portugal, Greece, wherever, I guarantee it - it won’t be the free for all that the government has just let loose in England.

One reason for planning restrictions of this kind is to ensure you can get a fire engine through in an emergency. Seems like an odd thing to stop worrying about.

The rules are being relaxed, not completely scrapped, it's not going to be a free for all.

Wrecking Ball Music are moving from Princes Quay to Whitefriargate.
Leaves an empty unit but the new place will be bigger, so good overall and good to see more good news for Whitefriargate.
Nice shop too, although last time I was in there to buy something I couldn’t get to it because Uriah Heap were in the way...all of them!

“Pleased to announce that we will be moving into new premises in Whitefriargate soon, we will be opposite the HMV (what used to be Kapow), this will enable us to vastly increase our Vinyl and Book selection and we will also be adding a Cafe so you can drink great coffee and browse to your hearts delight! The first floor will be used as a venue for a variety of live events, we anticipate an August start date but until then you can find us in the Princes Quay. Thanks for your support.”

Hopefully it will remove antiquated rules about outdoor seating, but keep safety requirements and access for disabled people and emergency vehicles.

Nah. They gave out some new guidance for covid a bit back by all accounts, this is more formalising it. They're very unlikely to be getting rid of all of it.

It could be worth looking up the official versions, as the media soundbites are rarely very accurate or decent on the detail.

Clinton’s Cards (in Prospect Centre) is staying shut, meaning they’ll now not be one in Hull.

Around 20% of all U.K. shops are expected to close as a direct result of the pandemic, hundreds of thousands will lose their jobs, I don’t think we’ll manage at all, it’s going to be disaster for many.

Clintons Cards was going down the tubes pre-Covid, 1 in 5 shops were to be closed. Lots of other chains in similar positions, Covid has just accelerated the process imo.

The post was about Clinton’s, not the wider high street struggles....an old fashioned card shop will not be missed.

Depends how you define cope, and whether you’re prepared to envisage a different future without the need to spend money on the stuff that 20% of shops sell, and use the overall wealth in the country in a different way to average out the work and income for all, for example by reducing the time individuals spend at work by 20% too.

it’s easy to be flippant about retailers we don’t personally use, but Clinton’s take nigh on £200m a year, so there’s obviously still lot of people they do appeal to.

I don’t shop at Clinton’s, Laura Ashley, Debenhams, Monsoon, or many other large retailers in danger of disappearing, but I’d still be disappointed to see them all go.
