Thought I had a winner there but it seemed inevitable that Circus Maximus was going to stay on strongly and he reeled Terebellum back in. Big price on Circus Maximus in the end. This was a good step up in form from Terebellum and it was a strong effort. God knows why Mohaather was the price he was, as he had plenty to find with Circus Maximus and some of the others. Close but no cigar with Terebellum.
Mohaather had nowhere to go at least 3 times and finished with plenty left in the tank. He is no doubt a high class horse his finishing position there can be forgotten about
Given connections I will have one eye on West End Girl here - transfer to Mr Henderson and enter her for the Triumph Hurdle
I've lost too many times on allegedly unlucky runners next time out. I feel these types are often flattered by looking to be full of running. It takes a stretch for me to have felt Mohaather could have won that with a clear run today. There were some right old cuddies in that field today. Mustashry was very poor and I can't believe people still feel Skardu is a good horse. His Craven win was a flash in the pan for me.
Wouldn’t be in a rush to back him next time out I agree. And I think would have only finished third even with a clear run.
Big leap forward for the 90 rated Frankly Darling there. This didn't look a strong Ribblesdale but she put them to the sword all right. I took an interest in her when looking for Oaks candidates and had remembered her promising debut run. Her odds for the Oaks then were 66/1 and I thought to myself about how oftern you can get that sort of price on a Gosden/Dettori filly? Only a small bet obviously but it is interesting now that Frankly Darling is 4/1 for the Oaks. Love is the obvious one to be worried about and she is a different kettle of fish altogether with her Guineas speed. I would imagine the plan will be to run the finish out of the O'Brien filly on the day. Gosden said he would speak to the owner but declared that Oppenheimer is a sportsman and that he felt that the Oaks would likely be on the agenda. I can dream for a while yet then. Never really liked Miss Yoda myself and she made hard work of it last time. She didn't even confirm that form today. Trefoil was awful and not the first Beckett horse to fluff their lines as a 3YO. She did not do much for Run Wild's Pretty Polly win last time. Gosden said some time ago that Run Wild would not run in the Oaks and would stay at 10F. Still widely quoted for the race and as low as 10/1, it would seem wise not to back Run Wild for the Oaks.
Mogul was Tom Tit there. As low as 4/1 for the Derby I never really fancied him after Kameko put him in his place last season. Mohican Heights just looked too slow today. Maybe softer ground and further would help him. Pyledriver caused an upset there and one can only conclude that he beat moderate and overrated opponents here. Mogul was pushed out to 14/1 for the Derby and makes no appeal to me after that performance. I don't think Epsom would suit based on today's showing and if Aidan doesn't have a better prospect at home I suspect he is in big trouble this year.
