I've started a new sport website, because I'm bored. Going to have some contributions coming in from some quite interesting people, so hopefully worth a follow! Just the one post so far really as I've only just set it up (and I can't get rid of the baseball picture, so if anyone has any ideas!?) Appreciate any support! https://www.sportato.net
Would have logged in to read and leave a comment, but not on Facebook and can’t remember my Google or email passwords. I may come back though. Is that plastic statue Arsene Wenger or Alan Hansen without his hair dye? Difficult to tell.
I believe that proper quarantine protocol for those in our general age bracket is to start a podcast and/or perfect a sourdough recipe. Starting a blog is so damned 2010. Also good luck will read etc.
New Sportato post is up, where I have a pop at rugby and cricket twits. So that should go down well....! https://www.sportato.net/post/rash-judgement
Great piece, well written and very entertaining. I couldn’t agree more about some of the types associated with rugby and cricket, although here in the West Country both are a bit more rooted in the working classes, heaven forbid. Indeed, there is class conflict within cricket itself in my village, where a few years ago the village team were told they could no longer use the pitch and (mansion-sized) pavilion at the local public school, a privilege they had enjoyed for decades. No reason, just the new bursar clearing out the stables. One of the consequences was that they were taken in by the village sports ground, where a wicket was duly prepared. Fair enough, you might think, except that the ground could no longer then be used for the annual Village Day, where thousands were raised for local charities. So thanks, Downside School!
Thanks Chilcs! There’s a rugby bloke who wants to write “a response” - which is fine - particularly as I’ve seen the first part of it, which I can effectively eviscerate!
Read it and agree - I have only been to one 'big' rugby game, and I have to say I enjoyed how the fans mixed (it was a European game) - it just seemed friendlier all round. However there is a snobbyish and "I look down at you because you are lower class" attitude when rugby fans discuss football. I think the actual players of professional rugby are changing their social background gradually, as the game has got more professional it making the turnover of players greater, so the clubs are looking wider than the normal public school route.
New Sportato up, where I look at Lewis Hamilton, race, and why is it that we don't seem to like him? https://www.sportato.net/post/race-to-the-top
New column up from guest writer, James While, who gives his thoughts (and team) for the British Lions' hopefully upcoming tests against the all conquering Springboks. Something to do with oval balls. https://www.sportato.net/post/lions-to-roar
Great article! Thanks LTL! I’m planning on being there (saw the oh so close series in 2009 and reckon we can go one better this time) The Saffers are SO confident that they’ll steamroller any northern hemisphere team that I’d love to stick it to them. Here’s hoping!!!
