    Pontefract 12.20pm Lockdown 15/8 win

Usually stay clear of mid week small meetings but thought this horse showed some promise on his debut, despite being slowly away from the stalls. Trainer sends him up to Pontefract with a decent jockey booked. Will obviously be a topical winner and has a lot going for him. Big shout..:emoticon-0148-yes:

a winner is a winner , whether at a seller at hereford or royal ascot , the payout as a punter is the same , competitive races can have more permutations than lower grade ones ........oh and never worry about prices , bookies are just making an overound \ profit

In addition to Lockdown have also backed Zoran 11/2 each way in the Goodwood 3.15pm race. I thought he ran well on his debut at Newcastle a few weeks ago and may well have needed the run.

    2.00 Fairyhouse Papa Bear 2/1

A fairly run of the mill maiden where they are vying for favouritism between Koolasice and Papa Bear. On RPR there is only 2 lbs between them after three starts each but Papa Bear is 5 lbs ahead on Official Ratings.

I saw Papa Bear on his second start last season and felt he was a reasonable bet against an odds-on shot of Aidan O'Brien's next time out. Sadly, Papa Bear ran 12 lbs below his previous start on RPR that day and to add insult to injury the odds-on favourite was only third, with a 25/1 shot landing the race.

I much prefer Papa Bear today, given that Koolasice achieved his best rating on debut and then ran below it the next twice. That's not a progressive profile for a horse who is favourite with some firms for this race.

Jesse Harrington is on an 18% strike rate and Johnny Murtagh on a miseable 4% so that makes Papa Bear a definite play for me.

Mind you I have the knack of backing the Harrington ones who stink the place out and those wtihout the burden of my cash go sailing in. I would probably have Papa Bear as an 11/8 shot today.

Totally wrong there. The punters seemed to know that 4% Johnny was going to come good today. Koolasice always travelled best and scooted away like a horse due to get thumped by the handicapper after this.

Papa Bear was rubbish. He never really travelled and ran a puzzling race for the top rated horse in the field. You have to wonder about him after that. He's run miles below his previous best there and my knack of catching Harrington at the wrong time continues.

Anyone just watch the 6:15 at Roscommon? The camera angle at the finish is terrible, can be very deceiving, but the horse on the rail looked the clear winner. I was counting my money then they call the other horse the winner, honestly can't see how Dazzling Darren has lost that race.
