There are my fellow citizens. People I went to school with and worked with. The people who live in my street and all around me in this city and our country. They had a similar education to me and work experiences. They drank in the same pubs and ate in the same restaurants and supported the same local and national sportsmen and women. Watched the same TV and listened to the same radio. Read the same newspapers and magazines. So what I don't get is why so many of them were so dumb arsed as to fail to see through the shallowness of this incompetent lot and vote leave and then for a clown to run the country. Some people's judgement is totally flawed. Let us hope they have a Road to Damascus moment pretty soon and realise that Cummins and Johnson are out to get themselves and their buddies rich and the rest of us can go to hell in a hand cart. Thanks to their incompetence over 40,000 have been carted off to the crematorium in a bier with many more to follow when the second peak hits in a month or so. So many lives wasted, discarded in the name of a political ideology. We really have become like a banana republic and that is being insulting to banana republics.

Well said St Lui, my only comment would be to use the excess deaths number +/- 65,000 and rising.

Just my opinion, but I think a lot of it does come down to whichever newspaper you read.
If you read a paper that constantly derides the poor as being benefit scroungers and immigrants as being a drain on the country I would suggest that the reader has either been, unknowingly, brainwashed into believing what they read, as being accurate, or they have always been of the same mindset.
I think looking at the connection between newspapers and the way their readers vote, supports this to some extent, although there will always be those who buck the trend, in which case the question needs to be, why are they funding the hate sheets?
I have 7 siblings, 6 of whom read the Mail or Express. They all spout the usual right wing, media cliches about the social benefit system, and the NHS being unsustainable and the threat of unions, despite most having been made impotent by the laws brought in by the Tories, whilst not deriding tax avoidance and the deliberate underfunding of the NHS. They all vote conservative.
I would sooner have a Pompey supporter as a family member, than a Tory supporter.

Yes - exactly. I have the same experience. Those who read those right wing rags are definitely brainwashed and absolutely refuse to listen to reason.
Of course - when Brexit is a disaster (as it will be - except for millionaires and tax evaders) it’ll all be the fault of the nasty EU. As all the protests recently have been by the dyed in the wool lefties and unwashed hooligans determined to cause chaos ....

I have just finished watching Sitting in Limbo.
Heart wrenching. I feel ashamed that this has happened to so many people, who are/were only here by invite from the British government of the time.
The following passage is from Channel4.com.

    FactCheck verdict

Both Labour and the Conservatives have accused each other of being responsible for the destruction of Windrush landing cards. The decision to dispose of them was taken in 2009 under Labour (although the then-Home Secretary says he didn’t sign it off). The actual destruction of the documents took place under the Conservatives, when Theresa May was Home Secretary.

The documents were destroyed as part of the UK Border Agency’s legal obligations under the the Data Protection Act. At the time, the Border Agency didn’t consider the documents to be of sufficient value to keep hold of.

Only later – in 2013 – was the “hostile environment” policy introduced by the Conservative-Lib Dem Coalition. Additional changes in 2012 added to the pressure on migrants in the UK.

Had they not been destroyed, the landing cards could now be used alongside other documents to help someone threatened with deportation to build their case for staying. It gets trickier when we talk about people who have no other record of their time in the UK.

The number of people for whom a landing card would materially alter their status now is very low – but not zero.

Nevertheless, it seems likely that the destruction of the landing cards would not be a significant problem for the Windrush generation if the “hostile environment” policy hadn’t been introduced

So reminiscent of pre-Nazi Germany it brings a chill to the spine and a tremor to the gut.

Farage is a side issue. The whole
    +.
focus should be on ousting Johnson. Aim for Johnson, find his weakest point and he will indeed be toppled, starting with his weakest senior ministers such as Hancock, Patel or Rabb. Frost would be another one. Succeed there, and Johnson is seriously weakened.

The old firms of Arsenal and Spurs were ethnically diverse so it is odd that they should be mentioned in the report.

With the videos of all the police being outnumbered and having to run away, they'll probably be grateful for the help <laugh>
